don't knock Stammen. i thought you liked him, knorr?
He's a mixed bag and could be good but I do not trust him.

Good:

-life on his fastball
-very good peripherals (solid control/ability to keep the ball in the park)

Bad:

-substantially worse the longer a game lasts (no Stammen-a, har har  )
-secondary pitches are unimpressive
-gets hit hard (LD's + HR's)

He really seems like he's suited to be a reliever.  I'd say the more likely "best case" scenario is that he ends up like another Dave Bush.

If you like him so friggin much then why do you want us to sign another SP?

don't see any reason why Hudson signs with the Nats when he could sign with the Rays. i don't even think overpaying him would convince him.

it's not like he's poor and hurting for money, and looking for one last big payday.

I see some reasons.  He's hit better while in the NL, so he might be more comfortable against NL pitching.  He'll play on a better playing surface in DC (he might be sick of the turf after Toronto), which is a little more significant for a guy in his 30's.  Didn't he say he has a rapport with Zimmerman?  And the Rays are in a better position than the Nats, but the AL East is gonna be TOUGH over the next few years.  Even the Orioles are getting much better.

He has several good pals on the team. Never overlook that.

and anyway everyone here assclowns out once in a while.

Except me.
<<<< I'm all ass :icon_mrgreen:

 :D :D :D

BTW, I was off the forum for 3 hours, came back and there were 6 new pages to this thread. I thought we'd signed somebody or something. Imagine my disappointment...

The Red Wings are old and crappy and no one cares about the NBA.

OMFG I meant it was absurd to debate Cleveland vs Nats because they play in different leagues.

That's it.

2010 is OVER.

Here's to hoping Strasburg comes along well and puts us in position next year. :hang:

I'll do it!

Seriously, please explain to me how anyone could reasonably expect this team not to suck balls again.

What do you consider "suck balls" to be?

If the team does not win at least 73 games (arbitrary number but I'm comparing to the ragtag 2007 bunch) and finish at least fourth, I consider them suck-balls.

That's a 14 game improvement.  That's generally considered a big step forward for any team.  I wouldn't be satisfied with a 73 win season, but it certainly, at least from where I'm sitting right now, would be much better than where we've been.  That being said, I honestly, and I have a naturally optimistic view on most things, but I do honestly think a 20 game improvement is possible for this team...and that still would leave us under .500.

He wanted to be on the west coast. Money isn't everything to everyone.

We just had this conversation about Grant Desme.

We have a completely new bullpen from the start of last year, a new front end type starter, and the hope that Olsen comes back from his injury to his usual form.

Some MI help would be nice, and another starter would be welcome, but this team should be much better than last year.

Also a plus is not just what we added, but what we subtracted.  Hanrahan, Milledge, Kearns, and Acta being notable.

That's a very low offer. No way of knowing if the Nats made an offer or how much it would be. Seems he wanted to go to SD.

20 games would be fantastic, but I'm not gonna bet on it.  I really think they'll only win 65-70 this year.

The problem that I think a lot of people are overlooking is health.  This team was really lucky last year with their position players - the core was able to stay healthy by and large.  If you lose Z, Dunn, or Hammer for two months, that's gonna kill this offense.  I doubt the team will be so lucky this year.  I'm kind of expecting bad luck to strike, or at least "normal" luck.
