It figured the Cubs would sign Nady but I'm glad that the poor man's Jose Guillen is off the board. Damn I wish we had signed Sheets last year.

Spend that money on Wang and Garland.

Maybe the scouts saw something they didn't like, and rumor was Sheets was not forthcoming with medical info, so the team may have dodged a bullet.

They are going to have to make a run at Hudson. A team can't stand pat after a last place finish when it's still trying to establish itself in a city

Garland
Smoltz
Wang

My order of necessities = Hudson>Garland>Wang (low risk - good reward IMO depends on price)>Smoltz

I hate to be a broken record, but WAG? What About Guzman?

I say Jim Bowden should pay his salary.

I just heard on XM that it's in the $8MM range.  To me, that's an easy gamble to take.  If it's $8MM per, the Nats blew it.

Maybe Ben wanted to play for Oakland rather than the Nats?

If you want to make a come back as a pitcher, Oakland's a great park to do it in. Who knows, maybe he has a relationship with their pitching coach or medical staff

I'm guessing the Nats didn't pony up.

If you put Bedard in place of Smoltz, that would be my pitching priorities.

You take the red or blue pill?

It's not my money, obviously I would like to have signed him at any price, but we knew the chances of signing him weren't going to be very great.  10 million is a good amount of change, but if Sheets is healthy, he's worth it.

Get Garland or one of the other guys.  Nats need another starting pitcher.

A sophisticated actor like me wouldn't stoop to a secondary role behind Keanu Reeves.  Please.

I haven't seen this previously discussed but Rick Ankiel said before signing with KC that the Nationals were in it. Rizzo is not sitting still and I have to agree with the vast majority of posters here that we need to sign Garland. Also would like to see Hudson on board but not at any price. We already have Guzman for that slot.

I am not comfortable with the "prospects " filling both the 4 and 5 spots in the rotation. Of course an injury to one of the "locks" and I think Olsen is being counted on as the fourth SP would necessitate that happening .

They must be sitting on a firm deal for Willingham, then.
