Of course, this is Bill Ladson, so he might be using "scouts" to mean "a scout and some other guy," or something.

A guy named "Scouts"

My co-owner for my roto team has a dog named Scout.  He's a weimeraner, so she can be dressed up to look like a baseaball talent evaluator.

why are the nats not agreeing to any deals with their arbitration-eligible players yet like every other team?

Today at Noon is the deadline for teams/players to exchange salary figures.

how many players did the Nats have last year that were arb eligible?

how many actually went to arb?

many players have already signed with their teams before tomorrow's noon deadline for exchanging figures.

then you have the actual arbitration hearings beginning in early February. a couple of weeks away.

last year we had RZ, Willingham, Olsen, and Hill I think. Hill went to arbitration and won. The other guys settled on deals before the hearings. RZ signed a 1 year deal initially and then later agreed to the 5 year deal.

many, but not all.

we had 4. only one went. wtf are you fussing about?

none of those three guys signed before the deadline to submit figures.

this year we have more arbitration eligible players (willingham, flores, nieves, burnett, bergmann, bruney). that's six.

we have just a few weeks before the arbitration hearings begin.

there have been several arbitration signings in the last few days in mlb but none from the nats.

you are fussing for no reason.

the nats aren't obligated to keep you in the loop for things like this. when it happens we'll know.

till then, relax.

I wouldn't be surprised if they announce all the agreements at one time. This Front Office seems to be the most leak controlled throughout baseball. This is going to drive the media crazy around the trade deadline, but I'm going to savior every moment of it.

You can still sign guys after you exchange offers.  This often is how the "let's split the difference" deals get done.  It is not late.

its not like we have a Zimmerman this year. Maybe going through the hearing would be good for a guy like flores or bergaman- sometimes it helps to be told you're not as good as you think you are and you need to step up. As for the others, aside from Willingham, who cares if their feelings get hurt.

I do hope they get something done with Willingham though

Here's what I think:

Willingham - agree to his terms.
Bruney - agree to his terms (don't start a new relationship by going to the bargaining table and trashing the guy)
Burnett - agree to terms
Nieves - CUT
Bergmann - go to arbitration
Flores - go to arbitration

Then agian, I won't lie awake at night worrying about it....

If you think about it, it is.  At least he's with a team that thinks he has value.

In actuality, it's a tough way to END a relationship - being traded for nothing.  I imagine that he looks forward to playing the Yankees again someday.

Trading him for virtually nothing just makes Rizzo look shrewd to Bruney.

Oh and Nieves will be the backup catcher to start the season. He won't get cut till Jesus comes back.

Waste of time.  Give Norris a quick stint rather than keep Nieves.

Not advocating, prognosticating.
