so we sign the other guy.

Agree. I'd throw in CM Wang and Bedard into the mix.  All we would be looking for is for one of these guys or Olsen to work out to take the #3 spot in the rotation behind Lannan and Marquis, then figure 2 or the multiple 4 -5 starter candidates actually pitches like a 4 or 5 starter.

I think Chien-Ming Wang would be a really interesting pickup. If he comes cheap enough I'd love to sign him to a two year incentive-laden deal.

Too expensive. I think he still wants 10 a year.

Doug Davis would be nice. So would Pineiro!

Davis must have worked on his slider last offseason because he threw it A LOT last season.

What difference does that make.  If he's healthy, he's certainly worth 10MM and if he's not healthy, he's only here for one year.  It's a no-lose situation for the Nats if they just pony up the dough.

No, $10m is too much for Sheets.  Do you really think any team is going to pay that much for him?  Maybe $3m + $7m incentives based on # of starts.

I don't care what other teams are willing to pay.  I want the Nats to get him and if that's his asking price, pay it.

He won't make 20 starts.

Pineiro needs to go to a team with a solid middle infield. He's a straight groundball pitcher now, so I don't think he'd do too well here.

If we can get Bedard or Sheets at a discount, I'd be cool w/ that.

We should also try to get Noel Arguelles.

I'm fine with Sheets, but I understand if the Nats don't want to break the bank with him, given his history of injury problems and what not.

Do you think that Livan Hernandez is only 34 years old? Do they even have birth certificates in Cuba?

He won't make 20 starts.

But he's the type of pitcher that could be valuable down the road, so lock him now and prove we're worth sticking around for.  By the time he's fully recovered, Stras will be ready so Sheets would never have to be more than a #2 anyway.

I thought that birth records in Cuba were considered to be fairly accurate, is my impression mistaken?

No it's dead on. Brian (NFA) has been pretty vocal about the legitimacy of Cuban birth records.

Very well then.  If NFABrian says it's so, that's good enough for me.

I will ask the poster to kindly refrain from making any additional derogatory comments regarding Cuban birth records  :nono: absent evidence to the contrary.

He passed his physical today and is officially a Kansas City Royal.

I'm not sure that constitutes racism. Maybe xenophobic or outright bias against one country.

It's just a dumb thing to say. Not sure it requires further extrapolation on motives.
