Just saw on NBC 4 where he was talking about the last 20 games and how he was losing focus and just wanted to get out of there.  I love the kid, but that doesn't jive with me much.

i have no problem with what he said.  i take it not as a knock on the city of hagerstown or anything, but the fact his mindset was that he wanted to move up from A ball.  he admitted he shouldn't have been distracted.

that's honest and again i don't think he was insulting one of our clubs.

I totally understand the want to move from low A ball, everyone was clamoring for him to move on a month ago, but he is going to need focus in a 182 game season.  When he gets up here I don't want him saying "You know I don't really get focused till June"

Again I like the fire in the kid, I truly do, but this scares me just a bit.

Bruce Hayes needs to teach Bryce a lesson in PR.

He's going to need a lot of Concerta®.

I'm pretty sure when he's at the major league level he isn't going to be thinking, "I need to be promoted." I don't like what he said either, but I don't think it's a major issue. Especially considering he had the injury, which I'm sure was frustrating coupled with the lack of a promotion.  crap, if he can hit .318 with 14 HR and 45 RBI without being focused...

I was going to point that out too, but then I realized: if you win the NL East in a one-game playoff, take the NLDS 3-2, take the NLCS 4-3, and take the WS 4-3, then that is a 182-game season. :mg:

Just imagine if there's a playoff game to get in it'd be 183!

Don't forget the vision issues that he had to deal with.

Then again, what if Harper is bored after winning his third MVP award at age 23 and winning his fourth consecutive World Series? :panic:

He can go down the road of Darryl Strawberry (drugs, boredom, underachieving) and/or Derek Jeter (excessive roadbeef).

Linty told me to tell you that Mike Rizzo loves him some excessive roadbeef.

Excessive roadbeef != Excessive beefcake.

Excessive roadbeef != Excessive beefcake.

There's room for both in a busy scout's day.
Although it is possible I was a little bit too late on heading over to Urban Dictionary.

more fodder for the "why he skipped Potomac" discussion:

http://dcsportsstop.blogspot.com/2011/07/harpers-promotion-raises-questions.html

Quote
I think another contributing factor is the current outfielders at Potomac. In Eury Perez, Destin Hood and J.P. Ramirez, the Nats have three prospects in the outfield. These aren’t just minor-league filler-players, but rather players that the Nats think could make it to the big leagues. However, none are really ready to make the next step to AA. Hood is having a nice season, and was an all-star for Potomac, but he is still relatively new to baseball after being a two-sport star in high school (he had committed to play football at Alabama), and rushing him to the next level might not be a wise decision at this stage of the game. On the other hand, Harrisburg’s outfield isn’t nearly as crowded. No important player’s development would have been stunted by the addition of Harper to the outfield.

You know, for all the dissembling from the organization, I think a number of us had this nailed pretty early on (the jump promotion and the relative weakness of the OF crew at AA v. Potomac).

This is why I come to WNFF to get my Nats' scoop.

He reached on error during his first time up but I guess they changed it to a hit later.
