this offseason has sucked. the hot stove has been anything but hot. so far the 4 biggest free agents have gone to new york teams. and i don't even want hudson. dunn id be ok with, but i wish we could just give him a 1-year deal. sheets i really wouldn't mind at all. if we signed andruw jones, i'd be really, really pissed.

at this point i'm resigned to preparing for watching the battle for a rotation spot between cabrera, zimmermann, martis, and balester. and hoping nick johnson can stay healthy

The no-risk part does make you pause for a sec. Nah, I didn't just say that.  :glug:

I disagree.  We were major players for Tex which came out of nowhere!

In my wildest dreams I never pictured the Lerners making such a major move. And the thing is, if they did it once, they'll do it again.  May not be this year or even next, but they'll be banging on Boras' door again with another suitcase full of cash.

that's been the only exciting part, really. and i think we all were pessimistic anyways. as the days passed we all started to feel like we were played and used and we were. am i happy the lerners made a play? absolutely, and it at least proves they want to win. but it's been such a bleh offseason so far.

The Olsen and Willingham trade was a pretty damned good move, IMHO.  :woop:

If he comes at no-cost then I wouldn't be upset with a s/t invite.

What move? He signed with NY. That crap doesn't count as a move. If you think it does then you have low expectations and have been Kastened.

What sort of money are they talking about with Jones? If he's cheap then he'll fit right in the Lerner's plan.

You're not a fan of Stan are you spider?

I think we'll make some big signings next offseason. Hopefully we play better this year so players will want to come here.

And never in my wildest dreams could I ever have envisioned someone calling me a Kasten kool-aid slurper.  :spaz:

The article says the Dodgers are paying his salary so if that's the case, WTF - invite him to s/t!

Ok then you've been Lernered, same thing though. They have managed to dupe some people into believing that they were serious about spending money to improve the team. Now it's the fans turn to go out and spend money in good faith. Maybe the fans should make a token effort but stop short of actually spending any money on merchandise, tickets and concessions at Nationals Park.

Strasburg is the next big test. Boras is going to ask for the world and Lerner has no choice but to bend over and pay it. If they FUBAR this signing like they did with Crow then the fans will revolt.

Strasburg will then be our big offseason acquisition of this year and next year since it's in between.

I'm not renewing my season tix and I doubt I'll be the only one, despite their big arsed offer to Tex. Trying but ultimately failing to sign him won't wash away the stench of 102 losses in most fans minds.

I didn't renew either and I'm sure a lot of people didn't. I'll still go to some games but not like 10-15 like I did in the past.

us acquiring Andruw Jones if the Dodgers release him would be IDENTICAL to the Redskins taking a chance on D-hall. there would be no risk.

i wouldn't be "vehemently" opposed to getting AJ. i would be hopeful that he could rekindle the swing he had during the glory days with the Braves. i gotta admit though, it looked like he just flat out didn't care with the Dodgers. he looked like a fool flailing at every pitch and lost all of his swagger. it's sad to see how far he's fallen in one year. he has to be determined to reclaim his reputation as an all-star and a gold glover.

I'm predicting we get none of those guys, make a bunch of other Corey Patterson like signings, and go into ST as is. It's a sad thought, but each day that goes by, it becomes more of a reality. The "in" thing right now is to shun the Nats and believe the media garbage that they aren't going to get better anytime soon. No one who could possibly make a difference is going to come here.

I might pour bleach into my eyes before I see AndrUw Jones in Nats uniform.

I'm starting to feel this way also. I'm not sure that we're going to be able to sign anyone significant. I'm almost resigned to the fact that we'll be watching the NJ/Belliard/Casto show at 1st base this year. on Andruw Jones.

Catcher Josh Bard was offered a job by the Nationals before signing with the Red Sox.

The vast majority of free agents have yet to sign with a team. I don't know why so many people are assuming that the Hot Stove season is over. It's barely started. The Teixeira saga dragged on so long that it, along with the crappy economy, has drawn out the Hot Stove season. Now people are waiting for Manny to sign which, in turn, will determine where people like Dunn, Abreu and others will go.

I'm usually not an optimistic person but I like the Nats' chances at signing at least one of those guys.

Damn - then we could have traded him for Doug Mirabelli and then back again.

I think the billionaire mall developers are going to get schooled as regards to attendance this year.  :glug:
