Why do you say this?

In no particular order:
Willingham: Bats - Right
Dukes: Bats - Right
Hernandez- Bats- Switch (probably just hits choppers from the left and uses speed - I admit I spent no time looking up his splits)
Milledge: Bats- Right
Guzman: Bats - Switch (again, no idea on his splits)
Flores: Bats - Right
Kearns: Bats- Right
Zimmerman: Bats - Right

Lefty-righty matchups for relievers are super-overrated (did you hear that Acta?) but this lineup is in for trouble.

And I meant right handed pitchers will kill us - argh I'm tired.

Splits -

In 2008, Flores killed lefties hitting over .300, righties just .230
Dukes performed better against righties, but had a short season
I'm not going to do the rest because someone like Ronny will get all the numbers from Baseball Reference  :icon_mrgreen:

I don't believe this. If you blow them away with an offer other teams are unwilling to match they will take the money. You are not going to convince me that players stopped following the money over the last couple of years and that all they really care about is winning.
I don't think a bum loser like Dunn cares about winning since he has never done so. We could possibly snag him with a large offer but then again I don't think that's a wise move. Let the Cubs overpay for his sorry ass.

Real impact free agents like Manny, Derek Lowe, etc. would NEVER sign with a losing team like the Nats.

that's why it hurt to come out and say "oh we're building for the future" etc ... stud free agents don't want to hear that crap.  all along the rays have been doing that but they never have said "oh we're building".

we're going to have to overspend - which i doubt will happen anyway - or make trades.  i'd prefer spend money on free agents as opposed to giving up something (although we got away w/ olsen and willingham deal).  that way we can keep our "building blocks" and add to it.  but of course our ownership/think tank doesn't see it that way.

i've said all along if we don't get teix/dunn/manny it's a terrible offseason and get ready for another terrible season.

and LOL @ those who think we should keep NJ and give him a shot.  Sure WHEN HEALTHY he's a stud, but do you think he's worth the risk, YET AGAIN?

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm starting to get the feeling that sportsfan doesn't like Dunn.

So Dunn is the anti-Belliard. Maybe that's why AZ hates him too.

Since baseball contracts are guaranteed, teams generally don't just cut loose players willy nilly. Like it or not, he's our starting 1B until he gets hurt. (did I just jinx him??)  :ballbat:

Let's evaluate via VORP. Granted it doesn't account for reliability but seems a fair measure of value last year.

Actually, it accounts for the full cumulative contribution over the course of a season, including time missed due to injury.  Tomterp's VORP was 0.0, since I never played.

That's all I've ever heard the Rays saying. Even before last year, they were hoping to field a playoff team in 2010. I would rather be a team that builds in a smart way adding free agents to supplement a core then a team trying to win via free agents by competing with NY and Boston for the top guys.

He'll play for the 1 week he stays healthy. The man is far better suited for DH'ing. Hopefully Beane realizes this . . .

Dunn just got a little further away

 :woop: :woop:

blessing in disguise if we don't land Dunn. he didn't help the Reds, he didn't help the D-Backs, and he wont help us. overall, he has one tool and is just a bad ballplayer.

I thought you might figure it out at some point but I didn't think it would take you this long.

Does that make you the ultimate replacement player?

he has one tool and is just a bad ballplayer.

I bet if Dukes only had his one "tool" you wouldn't mind it.

Teix didn't help the Rangers or Braves, and the Angels were already in first place when he got there. By this logic, we'd be better off with Cliff Floyd then Adrain Gonzalez

Yeah. I guess I had it coming after the whole home runs per inning thing.

Still, it's worse to be vulnerable to righties, isn't it - there would tend to be more of them and more mediocre ones to whup us.

I'm content with that. what do we have to lose? if he gets hurt we have suitable replacements ready like Willingham or Rhinehart.

That was some bogus bullcrap and you know it.

I don't believe that. Good players hit pitchers from either side of the plate.

OMG. Rhinehart has never played with the big boys. Also, he's not exactly a masher. And if Willingham is at first, that means your nemesis Kearns or maybe big Wily Mo is starting. Are you sure you wouldn't rather have Dunn?

To some degree. We don't field 8 good position players. Certainly not 8 professional hitters. I'd like to see a Frank Robinson bullpen-style lineup for a whole season and see how they end up. Someone could set it up in MLB 2K9 and run a full season simulation. I'm guessing it's not pretty.

Sheets would be a great signing.  Looks like we are out of the Dunn sweepstakes.
