why is baltimore getting a pass in the media, they've had 11 seasons of complete and utter futility, they have the worst owner in the history of the world, they set record lows for attendance this year, they just non-tendered their "can't miss pitching prospect" daniel cabrera, they've been trying to trade away BRob for years, they haven't inked an extension for Markakis and their in the same division as the evil empire and their evil twin -- top that off by the notion that PA expects to sign Tex at a hometown discount (BWAHAHAHA) and why aren't they getting crushed in the press?? WTF!! I'm really very bitter right now ...

It's not like the Orioles are getting lots of love from the national media. They've been just good enough to be irrelavent.

Don't mind me -- I actually like the orioles, I was a grateful fan when DC lost their team -- I'm just tired of the Nats getting dumped on ...

Boston TV channel 5 with some insight into what happened Thursday night.

Quote
Despite saying they have been outbid for free agent first baseman Mark Teixeira, the Red Sox do not believe they are completely out of the chase, SportsCenter 5 has learned.

Sources have also told SportsCenter 5's Mike Lynch more about the negotiations that took place Thursday at Teixeira's Texas home.
Lynch reported the Red Sox team of owner John Henry, COO Larry Lucchino and General Manager Theo Epstein offered Teixeira, 28, an eight-year deal worth $184 million or $23 million per season.

It was then that agent Scott Boras countered by asking for an eight-year contract worth $200 million, sources said.

Lynch reported that Henry became infuriated at that point, balking at the massive sum.

Lynch also learned that one of Teixeira's hometown teams, the Washington Nationals, has made a huge offer. Teixeira is a Maryland native.

It seems to be like there are 2 offers on the table the Sox and the Nats with Boras trying to get the Sox to meet the Nats number as he would probably prefer the Sox, but the Sox aren't budging (apparently).

Yep, exactly what I thought...that Boras is trying to get Boston to match or at least come close to the Nats' offer.

freak Boras, and freak Teixeira for having him as an agent and letting him dictate so much of this.

I couldn't care less any more.

Yeah, it really is crap.  No matter how much we offer, Boras is gonna give the Sox every possible chance to come within spitting distance of it.  We are leverage and nothing more, Tex won't end up here if Boras can help it.

How do we know that Tex wants to play here? What he says to build up contract numbers, isn't necessarily how he feels.

If the nats end up getting Teix, will he play up to his potential? Or will he only come for the money and play like Flop (not giving a crap)?

Tex is a potential HOF player. Him playing like crap would ruin that chance. Also, I can't imagine him messing up on purpose. Most players want to play to their full potential.

He is a robot. He will play like himself no matter what. He isn't a guy to lead a team in the clubhouse, but he also isn't a guy that will tear it apart.

Not saying it will happen. I'm saying he has the potential
He will be over a 400 HR hitter, and he has an amazing glove.

Becoming infuriated when presented with new demands doesn't exactly sound like someone who's willing to sit down and renegotiate as Gammons et al are steadfastly maintaining (praying for?).
