more OH chatter.

No way, dude.  Everybody knows the publicly-financed stadium costs are murdering the Lerners and that they are underwater already on their investment.  There's no cash here.  The Lerners are barely multimillionaires much less billionaires.

Why not just post a link to the board so we can read it ourselves instead of you copying and pasting everything from there over to here.

I think the Angels are willing to go higher...maybe even much higher...but I don't think Tex has any desire to stay on the West Coast.

The Sox have been outbid, but that doesn't take them out of the picture, unless they truly draw a line in the sand. the Sox are posturing and are still alive.

I think the O's are completely out of the picture. They haven't been heard from in several days. They are the darkest of darkhorses.

The Nats, I believe, have the highest offer on the table. Boras and Tex are practically begging the Sox to approach our number. If they come close to our number, I think he goes to Boston. If they don't, I think he comes here.

I am in 100% agreement with your philosophy on this.  I think the nats have a significantly better offer and Boras and Tex are using that to try and get something similiar out of Boston (where he really wants to go ) and thus we have the Sox calling their bluff.

Time to make a deciosnguys!!

Good Ol' Joel Sherman is up to his usual Nats bashing!

http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/st/archives/2008/12/3_up_sheets_tei.html#more

What a complete idiot. 1) Scouting doesn't cost 20 million dollars. 2) How many spare parts could we sign for 14 million, with 6 left for Strasburg 3) If he's a last piece, why would you sign him for 10 years!!! Is a championship worth signing a guy for 10 years? Not even the Yankees could stay on top that long. Moron.

I was JUST about to post that.

The O's fans have been the most delusional through all of this.

Nats fans would love to have Tex. but have felt like longshots since the beginning.

Sox fans are smug and arrogant, and have assumed they'd land Tex all along, but they've kinda earned the right to be a little smug and arrogant.

I don't know what the hell the Angel fans think.

But O's fans are just dead-convinced that Santa will come down the chimney of the Camden Yards warehouse and deliver Tex with an orange bow on his head.

If that is the truth then why are they not going after pitchers like Burnett, Sheets or CC?

I mean if they have enough money to give Tex insane contracts why not give insane contracts to people in an area where you REALLY need it?

but...we are! we REALLY need a capable first baseman!

It would be perfect for him here. He wouldn't be pressured to produce like he would be in Boston.

Do you HONESTLY believe that?  If he made 1/3 of the entire payroll would fans really just lay off the expectations?

haha as it comes to no surprise for most of you, i've been registered over there for years but rarely check it out.  too many egos.

and as far as strasburg goes, if the nats do sign teix, it doesn't mean we're not going to sign strasburg.  we can get both easily.

Because their hitting sucks just as bad as their pitching.

We'd expect him to hit, but we wouldn't expect him to carry us to the playoffs, at least right away.

Their defense mechanisms are kicking in now that the handwriting is on the wall that they're not getting Tex.

from CMSB:

More Mark Teixeira news as we await word on something to happen. First Chico Harlan of the Washington Post states that the Nats are in a holding pattern until this is resolved (he speculates Monday), and seems to believe that the Nats still have the 8 year/160 mil offer on the table. Jerry Crasnick from ESPN.com tells the CMSB that the Red Sox may not be out of it, but admits that noone really knows for sure.

"It could be both posturing and finances. Some people assume, because of Teixeira's personality and his reputation as the Boras "poster boy,'' that he's simply going to take the most money regardless of other factors. How much weight is he going to put on location, winning team, etc.? That's a mystery right now.

I think the Red Sox are going to offer a deal they're comfortable with, and they're not going to waver out of desperation or panic. So right now we have an old-fashioned staredown between Boras and Boston.

These things tend to have a lot of twists and turns, so I wouldn't take John Henry's email to mean the Red Sox are definitively out of it. But it's sure a lot more complicated than it appeared as of last night."

Oh and just to remind you, our sources within the Nats organization maintain that they have the best offer on the table and maintain their "99%" confidence rate. Personally I hope for baseball's sake that they are right. You can refresh your memory on that here.
