Boras also said, however, that a team like the O's or the Nats would have to make a convincing case that the franchise was headed in the right direction and wasn't far away.

Baltimore does a lot better job of making that case than Washington.

Out of all the teams involved, the Angels are of least concern to me.
Which is why they should scare all of us.  Come in and sweep him away from everyone while no one is looking.

We're suppose to get an annoucement tomorrow right? That's it...it's late -- we're not going to hear anything new at 1:00 am...Good night all--and SWEET DREAMS!

Why?  They actually NEED Tex probably more than any of the other teams aside from the Nats.  I think they have a pretty big drop-off at first if they lose him after they traded Kotchman.

I know they're said to be stingier in this thing, but they could always come out of nowhere and make a huge bid.  They have the resources.

I've said all along they are the best fit for Teix (although he would do wonders for Nats/O's morale/fanbase/etc).

Unless Scott Boras is a cyborg who never sleeps.

There is some solid evidence that this is the case. Don't let him know that you're on to him.

more from the Nats-bashing party:

As much as I understand why I think SG thinks he'll go to the Nats, I just don't think they can do it. While I'm sure they talk a good game, when it comes time to put the money out on the table, they don't have it. They couldn't/wouldn't even sign their first round draft pick this year. They've got a new stadium that absolutely NO one came out to this past summer and I think that hurt them a lot.

The Nats are in a really bad spot right now, no doubt. And while I agree with SG's prior statement about having to spend some to make some, I highly doubt they can afford to spend THAT much on one player.

Trust me when I say this, but as a resident of Northern VA, minutes from the Beltway, no one cares about the Nats here. I highly doubt anyone will notice if they sign Tex and I just don't understand how they think they have the money to do it.

the Nats drew 2.3 million of ABSOLUTELY NO ONE last year.

some of those guys over there really are simply not reasonable at all.

Please explain how we have done a better job?

Because we have a cornerstone player in Markakis, the best prospect in baseball, Adam Jones, and an All Star second baseman. The Nats have slightly disappointing Ryan Zimmerman and very little else.

Says it's from the LA times.

haha from reading that story it doesn't mean crap.  it's mostly like hunter saying, "phew, we're not out of it, i thought we had no chance."  doesn't mean he's headed to LA (although i love the area 8) )

I'm out. Hopefully we have news tomorrow so we can move on to Dunn (gulp) and the others.

edit: oh yeah, Great NBA game on TNT right between Phoenix and Portland now if you like basketball. Brandon Roy has 47 points.

Wow, the Orioles have the best prospect in baseball? When did they trade for David Price?

I'm THRILLED that the Red Sox are out of the mix. the Nats chances just skyrocketed! i just hope the Teixeira sweepstakes is settled this weekend, Nat or no Nat.

i will agree, the Orioles fans and their sureness that he's going to be an Oriole is annoying.

Morales=Kotchman
You think so?  I thought they were roughly equal at the plate, which was decent but nothing to write home about, yet Kotchman was a much better fielder whereas Morales was bad.

All I can tell you is that we are new to this game and feel a sense of honor in producing the truth...I know there are 1 million and one blog sites with 2 million "sources" but we would not have stuck our necks out unless we were solid with the source. Look it isnt over until Teixeira holds up that new jersey....but we felt strong enough to stick with it...look up here in Maine, Sox fans were all dead sure Tex was a Sox...I NEVER bought it. Go listen to some of our archived shows...I have never thought the Sox would pony up what Boras wanted..

Journalists don't think. They report.
