Well, it'd just be kind of sad that our garbage from last year could become some of our best this year, but if they're actually good this time around, then I'll take it.

It's just a shame that Zimmerman/Kearns/Pena as well as our entire bullpen were so inadequate that using people like Casto and Speigner has become a necessity.  That's what frustrates me more than anything.  If our original 25-man hadn't been so crappy, we wouldn't need to use retreads.

I think this will be his last start in Potomac.

That's not the best outing, but I agree that he should be moved up.

Willems with a mediocre start for Hagerstown today: 5 IP 5 H 4 R 4 ER 3 BB 0 K (No Decision)

I know he's still very young (19) but Colton just doesn't seem like he should have been drafted as high as we took him (22nd overall in 2006). Supposedly he has a 95 MPH fastball though so we'll see. But you'd figure with that kind of fastball he'd be getting more strikeouts than he has (33 in 58.2 IP).

Bernadina is now batting .346 over 214 ABs for Harrisburg this season. He has 3 HRs, 10 doubles, 7 Triples, 32 RBIs, 39 Runs, and 20 SBs to go along with that kick ass average.  He's also got 4 straight multi-hit games.

He turns 24 next week so it'd be nice if we could find out what we got in him soon. Call him up to AAA now and see how he does.

Bernandina and Daniels need to be called up.  Outright release Pena and Harris.

Bernadina went 2/4 with 2 Solo HRs today! He's now hitting .349.

Daniel went 2/3 with a Triple and Double. He's now hitting .319.

Zimmermann had an OK start and got a no-decision: 6 IP 4 H 3 R 1 ER 2 BB 1 SO 1 HR

Maybe not but he's still young and is hitting like a beast in AA ball. He deserves a call-up to Columbus.

I've always seen AA as being more fitting and competitive for the younger guys on the overall. It would be a smart move to call Bernadina up to AAA, though, if he actually has a chance to make it all the way to the Majors this season.

Why are you always hating on Bernadina? He's done nothing but produce!

Because for the most part, when I listen to Harrisburg games on the radio, it's his legs that get him those hits. He's not that great of an outfielder, and most of his hits are seeing eye ground ball hits or infield hits. He strikes out a lot and doesn't walk too much. He's all legs.

He is hitting over .300 at arguably the highest level of competition in the minors. About a 1/3(22/76) of his hits are for extra bases so it's not just legs. I'll admit he odviously needs to work on his plate discipline and his SO numbers are alarming. But he's also tied for 1st in the league in SB and 4th in the league in average sounds like he's a menace on the bases. Could be a future number 2 or leadoff man cause his OBP(.399) is top 11 in the league as well.

We're a team not scoring runs with pleanty of batters hitting below .250 right now. His average won't neccessarily transfer but he's definetly worth a shot and could be a better answer than what we have in our line up right now(Willy Mo Pena, and R. Langerhans).

Balester with an OK start tonight for Columbus: 5 IP 5 H 2 R 2 ER 3 BB 5 SO 1 HR

It's just pathetic that we won't let guys go more than 5 or 6 innings though.  Balester was only at 91 pitches and had a 5-2 lead so there was really no reason he couldn't attempt to go 1 more inning.

I never said that if he came up, he wouldn't produce. We don't really have a guy on the team that can steal 40 bases in a year, every year, and that's the guy Bernadina is. All I'm saying is, he's not the answer to what ails us. He's not gonna be a huge factor in changing our game. He gets a lot of called third strikes because he his plate awareness, IMO, is below average.

Edgardo Baez - Carolina Offensive Player of the Week

Baez had hits in all eight games the P-Nats played over the seven-day stretch going 14-for-29 (.483) with eight of his hits going for extra bases including five doubles and three home runs. The 22-year-old rose to the top of the league leader board in RBI with 42 by driving in 12 runs during the week. He also scored nine times and posted a .996 slugging average.

Ok, he's no Jay Bruce but he could be part of the answer and maybe part of the future. Who knows...

So Langerhands and WMP are the answer right? Bernadina isn't even expected to become a regular player, he can be a #4 outfielder with speed and he can get on bases. Hell who even gets on bases for the nationals these days?

Props to Potomac for winning the first-half division title in the Carolina League (Northern Division). They are the first Nationals minor league team to make the playoffs since the team moved to D.C. in 2005.

Where the hell has Justin Jones been? I see he made his first start of the season tonight for Hagerstown (5 IP 1 ER 3 K, Win).

That dude was money last year for Potomac (3.96 ERA over 91 IP) and at the end of the season he was promoted to Harrisburg where he went 2-0 in 3 starts.

He's only 23 and he's a lefty so you can add him to the list of stud Starters in our system. He must have been hurt or something and is just working his way back.

I think it might have actually been his second start of the season, but he didn't fair too well in his first one.

Oh, I must have missed his first one. I'd like to know where he's been though and what type of injury (if applicable) he is coming back from.

Justin blew his knee out in the off season.
