If he were to maintain his current goal-scoring pace this season (surely he won’t, but I’d be happy to be proven wrong), he’d break the record on February 9 at home against Utah, the Super Bowl Sunday afternoon game.

Ovi got hit in the lower leg and had to be helped off the ice. Didn’t look bad so hopefully just a bruise.

If he stays hot when he comes back, he still will be...

Looks like next season to break the record. 4-6 weeks out. Looks like they could use him tonight.

Well, that's what folks were hoping for at the start of the year. It's disappointing because he looked like he had a 50 goal season in him this year, which would have been like Ted Williams's 1957 (age 38) season (.388 / .526 / .731, 223 wRC+, with near-neutral defense).

I saw the following rather eerie point made on Twitter:
  • November 18, 1985: Joe Theismann broke his leg.
  • November 18, 2018: Alex Smith broke his leg.
  • November 18, 2024: Alex Ovechkin "fractured" his fibula (how is that different from breaking his leg?).
  • Bottom line: DC teams should not play on November 18.

I suppose even Cal Ripken wound up on the DL late in his career (good thing he ended his streak on his own terms).

Yes it’s sad as he was on a heater.
