Arquette starting to look real good. 6’5” shortstop who people think can stick there. (If not, he’ll be a very good defensive 3B or 2B)

was hitting.356/.480/.726 with 13 homers prior to a massive 6-6, 2 homer, 7 rbi game today.

Looks like he good be a quality defender up the middle, or great or better at a corner, will definitely stick in the infield, and could be a .270+ 25+ homer hitter

Ten week check in with top draft prospects:

On Holliday:

My thinking right now is this: If you want a bit of a project who could have a superstar SS/cleanup hitter ceiling, and if you trust your player development camp on the hitting side, you draft Holliday. If you’re the Nats, you let someone else assume that much risk.

Doyle is the rising darling right now. Boss thinks the Nats take him.

Boras is the only reason I would pass on Holliday.  Frankly, that might actually be enough reason...

I would be absolutely shocked if it’s not Holliday.

MLB pipeline updated their draft list and expanded it to 150.

I really like Arquette. I think he’s the biggest combo of proximity and upside.

Law still has Holliday to the Nats at #1 but notes:
Quote
The Nationals are still on a wide range of names, at least a half-dozen, including Holliday, the two college lefties Jamie Arnold and Liam Doyle, infielder Aiva Arquette and right-hander Seth Hernandez. This may come down to the best deal they can work out on draft day, given the lack of any clear 1-1 candidate in the class, which would allow them to try to sign another first-round talent among high school players who fall to their second selection (pick 49) because of bonus demands. Other than Hernandez, who has the typical base-rate risk of all high school pitchers, I’d say any of the names they’re considering would be a good pick here.

Given how much they'll pay whoever they pick, they'll probably rush them through the system like they did Dylan Crews.  Mini Me doesn't want a $10 million bonus player hanging out in Harrisburg.

They won’t rush a Hs pick. Crews wasn’t really rushed either.

high school righty going 1-1? How many times has that happened before. I don't think Beckett was 1-1.

The Google AI is saying there's never been a righty high school pitcher go 1-1.

He was promoted to both AAA and MLB with a sub-800 OPS.

I think only David Clyde and Brien Taylor were the only high school pitchers drafted 1-1.

There was another guy from Vegas in the late 70s who went straight to the majors but may not have been 1-1. As ... Matt Moore? Was a friend of a guy I went to school with.

Edit - Mike Morgan, 1st round, 4th pick.

Yes.  Was just going to say that. They had another first round arm so the same thing that same year. Tim Conroy.

I would be upset if they didn't try to get somebody to sign below slot if there's no clear #1. There's no Harper or Strasburg. Heck, Skenes went 1-1 because Crews wouldn't agree to below slot.

I’m hoping we can push one of the mid teens rated prep shortstops down to our second round pick with the promise of $4+ mil bonus

Would also like to see if we could work out a trade with the mariners around Lowe for their comp round a pick
