He was not playing left in the minors. He's 6-7. His running and speed are deceptive. He's fine in left field and there's no lack of effort.
he played 22 games in LF in Rochester this year, and 24 in CF. He also played 5 in RF.

Wood really looks like a 1B. Seems to have no instincts in the OF.

this is different from what every scout says. I will chalk it up to playing a new position. Swap him with Thomas before moving him anywhere

everything seemed off of a bad read coming in.  He hasn't played with CJ and Lip, either. Therr has been a few balls where he pulled back thinking an infielder would get it. It'll take time. Haven't seen him blow a fly ball as bad as Winker or Thomas yet.

and none last year. How many of the lf games were rehab? 5 or so?

Yes. I watched him plenty at Rochester, and he is a good fielder. We won't see "hustle" and face-twisting torment as he goes for a ball...he looks casual. But he is one of the fastest guys on the team. Sure, it doen't look like his legs are moving quickly...but he covers ground.

He will be fine.

Freakish. Reminds me of Jon Rauch tagging baserunners without stepping off the mound.

Outfield is fine. Playing a corner can be more challenging than CF for athletic outfielders. Even more so playing an outfield he never has before.

He doesnt looks max effort because he never does. He's long and lanky.  He just glides. He's Devon White.

Almost looks like he is scared of pulling his hammy again. It may not be fully healed.

if you read the scouting reports on his fielding, several note his "effortless glide". His height hides how fast he is.

Rosenthal says the Braves are looking for OF help. Thomas for David McCabe?

It isn’t his glide.   Watch how slow he is about picking the ball up when it is in the corner.   Takes him longer to grab it and get a throw off than a fat man

No.  Definitely not Thomas.   Send them Winker if the price is right

I have noticed a lackadaisical approach in the field and after he draws a walk a casual removal of batting gloves and shin guards before heading to 1B.
Have no issues with the offence but I would like to see max effort on the field. A little more hustle and intensity.
Shelve the fanboi outrage for just a minute...the kid has been terrific at the plate in his first week...

His outfield play has been pretty dreadful in his first week...especially for someone who has come up thru the system as a Center Fielder.  If you haven't seen that...then you haven't been watching...

Guessing this is the same list of folks who were ready to write off Dylan Crews a few months ago. :couch:

Interesting... dave just said they will "get Wood going in the outfield"...and "he needs to work on that first step"...

Pretty much what the folks that have actually been paying attention have said here...

But dave's a dumbass...so not sure we can give him any credence...

If the greatest manager in DC baseball history says it, it must be true.

No. Wasn’t in that group. This is reality. He’s nervous. Hurt.  Or lackadaisical

hard to argue he's played flawless left field, but the whole "he's a first baseman" stuff goes far beyond what Davey is saying and what can be justified by his play this week. Work on his first step in a position he has not played much before is a reasonable reaction.

Quote
The Nationals have been on the periphery of the postseason picture for much of the season but are preparing to approach the trade deadline as a seller, per Ken Rosenthal, Katie Woo and Patrick Mooney of The Athletic. Washington will be open to offers both on potential free agents and players signed/controlled for only one additional season, per the report

yes, that seems to put Thomas, Finnegan, and Harvey on the table. Which is probably good. Doesn't mean they all get dealt, but we should not hold them too tightly.
