Except Justin was a good player. Far exceeding his bother. Delmon was a 1/1 with a career WAR that was 20% of Dmitri’s.
you win. Justin had more success than Delmon, but a really bad last contract.

Albert Pujols is a first ballot Hall of Famer. Bad contracts are the fault of ownership and ownership alone. We get too caught up in salary and contracts which reflect on the native intelligence of the check signers not the signees.

yes, contracts can lead to ridicule which can lead to underestimating the actual talent. Even Rendon since the start of the 2021 season has a 97 wRC+ and a .312 wOBA (plus a .701 OPS).

agree. He's basically what we penciled in Edwards to be last year.

I'm liking the bullpen. Finnegan / Harvey / Floro, with Rainey, Garcia, and Weems may be deep enough to avoid overwork.

If Rainey comes back with the same stuff as he had pre-injury, he could be a valuable add to the backend of the bullpen.

The bullpen looks pretty solid going into next year.

The rotation is hopefully going to be as good as it was last year, which wasn't very good. It could potentially be worse.

The offense is probably going to be worse.

Defense is going to be worse without Smith at first.

You know, at this point bringing back Smith isn't the worst idea.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but not the worst idea. Senzels signing is equivalent to Dickersons signing except he won’t last as long. Nunez won’t contribute anything close to Chaviz. Floro hopefully will have a bounce back year.

i'm also thinking that the absence of a LF signing means they think Crews is breaking camp with the big club.

Probably part of the thinking behind Senzel is he could play left if Crews and Garrett aren't ready.

Still wouldn't be shocked if they brought in a bigger piece for left, but I'd be surprised if they spent for Joc.

It means they don’t want to spend money.

I think going north with the club would be a surprise but we'll see him by Memorial Day.

Team needs 3B, 1B, and LF, as we've known since the trade deadline. Is Eddie Rosario too expensive for the Nats? And worth more than a year's contract?

Maybe Senzel starts 3B, since he out-hits Kieboom?, but the team would still need a LF, and best if he is LH, plus a 1B who can hit.

Yea ... about that third base need

Nick Senzel says he was told by Davey Martinez the Nationals expect him to play third base every day. He can move around to other positions in-game if needed, but he's particularly excited to be able to focus on his preferred position.

Career OPS+ of 77. To 74 for Kieboom albeit in fewer at bats.  Might have well brought back Maikel Franco.

I assume Davey wouldn't be crazy about Senzel saying it's not an open competition at third when nobody seems to be an established good player.

I mean, one of thise goes to Joey. He's at least been a league average bat. Or close to one.

i'm also thinking that the absence of a LF signing means they think Crews is breaking camp with the big club.

He could probably use another 200 ABs in AA/AA and he's Boras, so would make sense to wait a couple months to get another year before FA and Arb eligibility.   Plus, not like this team is going anywhere in '24.  At this point, good chance they win fewer games than they did in '23.

Re: Senzel, he does not have the bat to play 3B everyday and turns 29 this year.  Unless '24 is a tank for high lottery chances, that would make little sense.
