Soto should have known the damn things are cursed.
That is just so dumb of the team to do something like that and especially during the season.  Might as well have him ride scooters with Tatis Junior this off-season.

the Nats have better analytics and batting coaching. :couch:

BTW, we already have a thread discussing Soto - https://www.wnff.net/index.php?topic=40261.0

I wouldn't undo the trade.

more seriously, this went from a mildly off, very unlucky year to a big step back around the time of the back injury.  Funny how the article doesn't mention the most obvious potential cause.

His contact percentage on swings at balls outside the strike zone is up from his career averages, too.  Those are balls most hitters hit more softly than balls in the strike zone.  He's also not swinging at as many strikes (z-swing %) as his career average, so perhaps contact on bad balls are a higher % of his total contact.

Don't ask me the solution.

Career he's had 2601 PAs, and has been in 2 strike counts in 1339. 51.5%.  In 2022, he's had 598 PAs and been in 2 strike counts in 299.  He's not getting himself into counts where he has to be more aggressive to protect himself (not that he would).  You would figure the O-swing % would go up if he were in more 2 strike counts.

Had a good game a couple of nights ago as well. Might finally be turning it around.

Possibly pressing? Combined with a lower Z-Swing% that's definitely a bad combo and would explain a lot of his abnormally low BABIP.

Posting this here because Gorman was one of the names bandied about in discussion about the Cards package for Soto.

To be fair "plummeting" to a .720 OPS would still make him one of the better hitters in our lineup, and, to pick out our current future core, better than Abrams, Ruiz, and García.

He had a hot start but has been headed downward ever since. Jury is out on him just like those guys you mention.

They are trying desperately to lose again today so they can "catch" the Phillies and play the Cards instead of the Mets (or Braves).

Ended strong: .333 / .441 / .579, 5 doubles, 3 HRs over his last 15 games.

Bell over the same stretch, not so strong: .178 / .289 / .200, 0 HRs

Soto had slightly more than half the plate appearances as a Padre than he did as a Nat. His splits were:

Nats - AVG - .246, RBI - 46, HR - 21, OPS - 894,

Padre - AVG - .240, RBI - 16, HR - 6, OPS - .790

Soto or Scherzer?  Who would we rather see advance?  I will say Soto just because I can't stand the Mets.

I can't stand Machado so he neutralizes a lot of the reason to pull for the Padres.  As I said elsewhere, if he were hurt or suspended, then I'd be pulling for the Padres all the way.

I'm totally pulling for the Padres.  I can't stand the Mets, but I still love Scherzer.  I was hoping he would pitch well tonight (but still lose).  He accomplished the later, but certainly not the former.  And if he was going to lose the game, I was glad to see that it was Josh Bell that started the damage - just like he did against Max way back in April.

Team aside, I have a soft sport for Scherzer and would like to see him get another ring

Padres won last night despite Soto. Three groundouts to second and one strikeout. It looks like he's trying to pull everything which is unlike him.
