Weird that the article doesn't mention the tv deal that only got paid at about 80% last year and is unknown going into this year, and that they had to say good bye to the backloaded portion of it.

That's got to contribute to their cash flow problems, so not sure why everyone is saying they don't know what happened.

Definite story to watch this off-season. The Padres are publicly saying they want to extend him, but it seems pretty likely they'll reach the same conclusion as the Nationals and realize he's going to FA, and it would be better to trade him now.

Let’s trade them Hassell for the last year of Juan’s contract.

Both Passan and Rosenthal think he will be moved this winter, with MLBTR suggesting maybe as soon as the winter meetings next week. That'd afford the Padres some flexibility to go after free agent pitching, as well as potentially getting pitching back in a deal. Yankees are a prime destination, with Cubs and Phillies in the mix. There's a good deal of discussion about potential NYY names. Mets and Red Sox not in the mix for a rental, price is likely too high for the Mariners, and while the Giants have need and room to spend, they are in division. There's a suggestion that they will get a better than Mookie package because there's no comparable contract dumping like Price in this deal, but they are unlikely to get anything comparable to Woods /Gore / Abrams.

Susanna and Green = pitching and a recent high first rounder = we’re all done here

Vaquero should be enough.
