This season from Abrams has been frustrating. He'll be only 24 all of next season, so I'm hopeful for improvement. I'm just not sure if I want to go back to the extension table unless he closes this season really strong.

I would just pay him. He's in a slump but he's shown far more good than bad in my opinion. I think if you can lock him up you do it instead of waiting until the Lerners can't "afford" him.

If I was the Nats I'd chat with him about an extension and buy out a year or two of FA, but I wouldn't go very high. I still think Abrams will progress as a fielder. The bat is streaky. But there isn't a 9 figure on the table any more, in my opinion.

No, I think you give him a modified version of the Garcia treatment. Tell him hes not guaranteed a spot next year unless he shows significant improvement on the defensive side of the ball. If he struggles out of the gate, option him to Rochester.

Not sure you are projecting. He looked very intense to me and is probably pressing and exacerbating the slump.

He has a career OPS+ of 87. Jacob Young this year is at 89. It's playable if he plays defense in line with his capabilities. It's his inconsistent defense even more than his mediocre hitting that is the potential death knell for him because it makes him unreliable instead of reliably mediocre.

This franchise has a gift for making boneheaded moves, but keeping Young over Victor was the right decision. Robles was given tons of chances here and Jacob has proven himself on the basepaths and with the glove.
