This franchise has a gift for making boneheaded moves, but keeping Young over Victor was the right decision.  Robles was given tons of chances here and Jacob has proven himself on the basepaths and with the glove.

Yes.

not to turn this too much into a Vic discussion, but his injury in 2023 really killed his ability to stick here, if it wasn't dead already. He was going to be a FA here at the end of this year. No one was going to extend him off of 2022. On top of that, he was hurt this year, too. If he had been inserted into the lineup, done everything he did in Seattle, maybe he would have been a trade chip, but is there anyone here who was arguing to sign him for what Seattle just did? 2 years, $9.75 million? As it is, we have a 3 WAR CF in Young plus Wood and Crews capable of playing CF. Good for Vic, I hope he has a fine career, I don't begrudge any of the 2019 team who have had success elsewhere.

Since August 1:

Vic: .286   .350   .419, 11SBs, 2HRs
JY: .272   .312   .395, 5SBs, 2HRs

Slight advantage to Vic.

Defense matters.  Young is the best defensive CF in MLB by some metrics, and Robles isn't even the best CF on his own team - which is why he's playing RF.

I don’t see the link but saw it earlier. Saw him at a casino at 8:00 am.  Maybe he host woke up!

Doesn't this take him out of Super 2 status?

He was scheduled to have 2.130 years of service at season's end, just ahead of the 2.128 requirement for 2022 rookies.  But losing nine days brings him to 2.121.

Does this make his street clothes bobblehead more or less valuable?

He's reporting to West Palm as the Red Wings season ends tomorrow.  TalkNats says he's been warned a few times already.

Hope he can get his head straight. At least the "Extend CJ" talk is dead for a while now.

Apparently Davey said the demotion was not performance related.

probably makes sense to shift discussion here:

Via Andrew Golden:
Quote
Dave Martinez said CJ Abrams will head to Washington, then to West Palm Beach until the end of the season. He won’t play against in the majors.

Martinez: “I just want it to be known it wasn’t performance-based. It’s an internal issue. I’m not going to give specifics.”

With this story and his weak 2nd half that would be the definition of selling low.   He's more likely to be cut like Johnny Manziel was after he was in Vegas the night before a game, although I don't think CJ has anywhere near the string of bad behavior Manziel did.

Holy crap. Saying it's not performance based but also not willing to give specifics makes it sounds much worse than I'm hoping it actually is.

Edit: Ah, I see the discussion in the other thread now.

I hate gambling.  :smh:

CJ's performance has been a bit better too. The Manziel documentary (netflilx i think?) is really good. He never had any interest in doing the work to become a top-level performer in the NFL.

Extension off the table.

I don’t think you consider moving him unless someone makes a surprising offer. I simultaneously think CJ Abrams desperately needs a fresh start but it isn’t the Nats job to give him that when it would be selling at rock bottom value.
