Back up to hurricane strength
Been cloudy all day in Orlando but still no rain.  Hope it stays west.

Henri heading for a direct hit on Long Island as a Cat-1, sustained winds of 85MPH at peak.

So, how far out?  Narragansett Bay getting a big surge?

here's all the details on Henri - https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/storminfo/#08L

3-5' surge for much of the RI/southern MA coast. Still to far out for any certainty though, models show a pretty big variance in where it will hit. Some show a direct hit on NYC.

there was a huge northeast hurricane in I think 1938 that came up Narragansett Bay and had a monster storm surge. The bay is funnel shaped and gets progressively shallower up to Providence.

Maybe apocryphal, but I've read that some people survived atop houses that were swept across Long Island Sound.

THE MIRACULOUS RIDE
As the family moved first to the second floor and finally to the third floor to stay above the storm surge, they watched as house after house succumbed. They saw neighbors washed away. Finally, the waves overwhelmed their own house, lifting it off its foundation.

“Next thing I knew, we were floating,” Moore recalled. “We were on the water with the waves crashing over us, and part of the house still attached, one of the walls still attached to this piece of floor, and it almost acted as a sail.”

In all, 10 people clung to that bit of floor as it hurdled across the sound to land in Connecticut, where the family then stepped back on to land and back into their lives.

I lived through Gloria in 85, the southern LI coast where it hit had a ton of flooding and damage. We were about two miles north and lost power for a week.

I got a nasty wake up at 12:30 AM two nights ago with emergency tornado warnings. We were alright, but SEPA had multiple Tornado warnings, which I can only think brings the total of tornadic activity this year to what must be an all time high.

aw thanks Mathguy, all good here! All good here, just some rain and lightning.
Henri looks like a legit threat to CT and MA at this point.

I've been suspicious of Henri for a while. Sounds a lot like some forward for Les Habitants, and those types don't ever do Bruins or Whalers fans any favors.

Hopefully not. It’s not nearly as strong as Gloria.

Looks like the NOLA area is going to get hit with a hurricane this weekend. Models show it reaching Cat-3 strength before it comes ashore.

Ida up to 150mph max sustained winds and could reach cat-5 strength before landfall. The area it is heading into is the petrochemical hub of the region. This is devastating.
