No. We hired him to win game 5 of the NLDS. Won't we all be embarrassed if we don't even make the playoffs?

I won’t be....

Playoffs are not going to come easy this year if at all. The Muts and Braids have grown up and the Phillips will be no slouches.

It was sort of the editorial "we".  As in, won't management be embarrassed .....

I wouldn't be if I was owners or management. Players who are known to be good hitters aren't hitting. Sums up the issues seen so far.

bringing in the camel was bush league
this is an experienced winning team

you can't win in the playoffs if you don't even make the playoffs

it doesn't matter if dusty was a likeable guy he won a lot of games and got teams to post-season and the team respected him

you don't dump dusty for a camel jockey at this point in time with the makeup of this team as it is you just don't ... especially if you want to keep harper you think he wants to play on a team that goes from contender to joke in 1 season

honest to God I have been watching baseball for decades and what dusty did last year for half a season with NO bullpen and a team filled with injuries was one of the best managing jobs I have ever seen you just dump him you could tell the players were shocked by the move

martinez is clueless you can tell from his statements the best one yet batting harper leadoff  :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:

Why should he care, Nats will likely have a new manager next year.

you really think he's gonna publically bash a manager he would get roasted alive players especially media savvy players like him don't do that ever

get a grip on how the world works dude

I am sure Harper will have high praise for him when he gets fired too and when he's playing in New York or Cali

Bryce had high praise for Matt Williams.

ah that he did, he seems fine handing out generic praise to anyone now that I think about it. Ok he might hate him, what do I know.

Lighten up a bit.  You're talking to skippy, not Mathguy.  She'll get the picture even without all the condescension.

And on another note, this might be a rare moment where having Werth around would be beneficial.  If there was one person who was never afraid to be a total douchebag and say exactly what was on his mind re: management, it was Speed Racer himself.

That is what any sane manager would say. We owe the guy over a hundred million dollars to throw the ball, not run the bases. He gets hurt and our season is over. Martinez wants to be a cool guy in the clubhouse.

It didn't even make sense to risk the out with the top of the order coming up. No need to try to manufacture a run in that situation, just load them up and get Harper to the plate.
There is some logic to this. Had he sprained an ankle and been out for 4-6 weeks, Davey would have (deservedly) taken heat for letting him steal.

Remember when Scherzer was hurt last season and the result was he started one game in a five game series?

Looking out to the next Mets series, by starting Cole on Wednesday instead of last Monday, that lines up Scherzer and Stras to pitch against Colorado, and the bottom 3 starters to pitch in NY against the Mets next week.  If they had given S&S an extra day and kept Cole on his 5th day, then Stras would be going in NY.  Had they slotted in Hellboy tomorrow against Colorado along with Cole on 9/15, then we could have had both Scherzer, Stras, and Gio lined up for the Mets, with all on an extra day's rest.

You needed Scherzer to 1) stop the losing streak and 2) save the bullpen some innings after an extra inning Sunday night game. I think it was the completely right decision.

can see your point, but still, flip-flopping Stras and Cole would have allowed Stras to go again against NY.

Back to this camel business. Give Bryce 500 over 10 and he will play right field riding a camel......unless there are ground rules prohibiting  such

Another Nat (Harper) went on a tirade against the umps. What a bunch of entitled losers that Martinez has turned these guys into in just eight weeks. The Nats had more bad calls go their way than against them tonight, how long will that last. Davey has no control over this team.

I was talkin' to some folks in the parking lot at the golf course today.    I told 'em, "I'm afraid the Nats are gettin' a reputation with the umps."

The point is that multiple players are barking at the umps in multiple games. The manager is allowing the players to shift blame for their own poor performance.
