I wonder if Machado hurt himself by moving to short stop. I don't see a good time wanting to use him there, as he's not very good at it. He makes it complicated by making it seem like he'd pout going back to 3rd base too. That combined with his late season antics probably dropped him out of the super elite free agent category.
That tweet also makes me think that the Nats 300 million offer to Harper might be by the far the highest on the table. Sports economics are due for a correction for a lot of reasons, and ironically MLB owners have more ability to control salary vs the fixed cap linked to revenue share leagues. Free agency salaries have really taken a hit these last couple years as owners wise up to the fact that is not the best way to spend your money and aren't that confident about future revenue streams.
