Nats win arbitration case against Michael A. Taylor. He will make 3.25 million this year. I think this means he’s gone in some way or the other.
sign Bryce, trade MAT and Eaton, go with Stevenson as the CF backup, and Soto, Robles, and Harper as the OF.

He can go to another team and maybe they can teach him how NOT to get picked off.

Give me a name that we can get for Eaton. I don't believe Stevenson is a bonafide back up (yet).

Stevenson is a lefty, but other than that does he have any advantage over Taylor?

It’s not our money but AAV hit? The ~2.9M saved won’t help much though!

Honestly, if you want to trade Eaton, you need to get him through May healthy.

Money is the main one. I haven't looked at obp. Kendrick is your righty corner backup. I don't think holding off on dealing Eaton a month or two into the season is going to help his market all that much. Most teams will not be looking for a starting corner of at that point. Right now, the contract is good for a regular. It has been the plan to move him if Bryce is back, so I think you can get pieces back.

Roark “took the damn ball every 5th day” and gave his team a chance to win. I’ll agree with that. Sometimes he’d get rocked, but he usually kept the game manageable. He could also pitch past the 5th inning.

The same can’t be said for Gio. You could count on a few things when Gio would start. There would be no pace. He would walk a tightrope. The bullpen had to be on alert early. There are a lot of culprits for the Nats postseason failures. Gio is at the top of that list.

This current rotation is the best the Nats have had since 2014.

Gio averaged 183 innings the past 3 years.  Want to guess how many pitchers averaged more?  Confirmation bias makes fans think he rarely pitched past 5.  He made all 32 starts each year those 3 years, so he was 8 innings short of averaging 6.

Flip Taylor and Wil Crowe for Danny Duffy. Taylor has one year less control, but KC could flip him at the deadline if Taylor looks like 2017 Taylor.

if Duffy is anything like peek Duffy then he's your #2.

I think 2017 was the peak, and his stuff has backed up. He'd fit in as a good 4-5 now.

I cannot believe that the team went to arbitration over 250K

I agree with this. It seems so petty given the overall payroll of this team.

It's unbelievable. Obviously they are sending a message....but not sure why.

That's the way I read it as well, i.e.  you have no future here.

That was the problem. He pitched too long into games, leading to bad results.

And how many times have we seen him leave a close game with runners in scoring position, often getting bailed out by the pen.  I can count the number of strong finishes on one hand.

Like, did you even watch Tanner last season?

Nats sign JJ Hoover to a minor league deal:

Mitlen will like Hoover.

I know someone who went to HS with Hoover.  Supposedly he's a really good dude.  Not a bad depth signing, especially if he keeps up his alternating good year-bad year pattern.

Given what we have heard on John Wall's achilles injury recovery time, isn't it more than likely that Howie Kendrick will NOT be available for the first few months of the season?

According to Craig Mish of SiriusXM, the Nationals are talking to free agent right-hander Jeremy Hellickson about a potential return.

Hellickson made 19 starts with Washington in 2018, working to a surprisingly sharp 3.45 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 91 1/3 innings. He missed time due to hamstring and wrist injuries. The 31-year-old right-hander would probably have to fight for a spot in camp with the Nats this spring, but his market seems limited right now, as is the case with many other free agents.

He would be nice to have back as a 5th starter and competition for Joe Ross and we can leave Erick Fedde and Austin Voth in AAA.

If Hellickson was ever willing to go to the pen, he'd be good

Does it ever even cross your mind to preface your opinion with "I think ..."?
