Retractable roofs cost about 100 to 150 million more dollars. But then allow the stadium to get more use. Nats Park isn’t usable from November to March. And it’s even more pronounced in the Midwest. Honestly, with as much as these stadia cost I don’t think $100 million is a bad investment.

True enough. Wonder, though, how much the Nats attendance would increase if the facility had such a "roof." Us hard core fans go out in any weather but ... in this age, gotta think there are loads of people who don't purchase tix/show up when the thermometer is below 50 or over 90. Not to mention rain. Might've been a short-sighted decision. All those ticket sale and concession revenues lost!

Why is everyone using the oldest/worst domes for examples. Miller Park and Safeco are great places to watch a game, doesn’t matter whether the roof is open or closed.
And the roof means that a taxpayer funded resource isn’t sitting unused for half the year.

This. The new stadiums are much better. Tropicana Field opens almost 30 years ago. The Kingdome was *demolished* almost 20 years ago.

It is bad (in my KingDome experience). But ... there's every reason for an owner to want the roof kept open. Utility costs, for one. 

It's obvious why Miami (tropical rain showers and oppressive heat) and Arizona (oppressive heat) would be closed more than open. Also, Seattle in the rainy seasons (lotta sunny days summer long) and Houston in mosquito season. But, in watching Toronto games, that ownership clearly keeps the roof open as much as possible! As, I'm sure Milwaukee does.

Nats haven't played a full game in a week. And, as pointed out, we have many fans driving 100 miles or more to get to a game. No thought for them?

Safeco is fine with the roof closed, miller is kinda meh, and chase is like an airplane hangar where you lose all sense of the passage of time.  And the grass in Miller and Chase is trash, and I think Seattle is just lucky.

Except that there are so few events that would legitimately need a space of that size in the winter. You’re going to get maybe 5 events each winter there, no matter how well you market the space or how aggressively you try to recruit talent/events. If the TEAMS were paying, then by all means let’s talk about roofs,  but the reality is that tax dollars can (and should) be better spent. And this is coming from a self-proclaimed bleeding heart liberal who doesn’t mind the idea of raising taxes to buy stuff. $150M+ can fix a lot of roads and build a lot of housing and feed a bunch of kids a hot lunch at school.

All team owners are wealthy. Every sport. None of them are buying their own roofs.  John Oliver has a great segment on this topic.

Or at least provide an electrical outlet under our seats so we can plug in a fan to blow up our ass. 

I have suddenly gotten very old and unless the weather is San Diego-ish I ain’t going nowhere. I’m not a fan of indoor baseball but it would likely put my fanny in the stands several more times in July and August if the temperature wasn’t beating down on me.

I'm guessing that if the 2pm is postponed, and play is possible around, say, 5 or 6, they'll play a single-admission doubleheader (for 7pm ticketholders).  Otherwise, they'll end up the weekend with  at least one game needing rescheduling, and they will want to avoid that at all cost.

Right. I am in Richmond. With nothing better to do, I'm on "go" until I hear otherwise. I think they probably plan to wait to try to squeeze this one in, and if not, there's tomorrow. But in the meantime, there are fans like me who can't wait until an hour before game time to travel to the game. Oh well.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant if they can't play even one game today.  If they can get one game in today, they'll certainly at least try to play two tomorrow.

The dodgers really do not want a Sunday double header because they play in Colorado Monday. They’ll play 2 tomorrow as a last resort but they want every last chance to get 2 in today.

I have no idea.  All I know is that trying to exchange these tickets is near impossible.  Other plan holders on twitter are voicing their frustration - if the tickets are gone from the inventory there is no way to exchange them, especially before 2pm!
