Waiting for someone to chime in with..."But his BABIP" and/or "He's just been unlucky."

I'm as big of a "it's early, small sample, etc." guy but he has looked even worse than I could have imagined. Adams has to play more.

I figured he was done before last year. He must have had some good juice last year.

Yeah, same here.  He can't have 100% of the ABs at 1B if he continues to look so crappy.  His timing just looks way off right now.

Hey, maybe I should apply a little bit of RZ philosophy to my own life, eh? Because, ya know, I'm feeling a little worn out... like if I go to work tomorrow, it might take a lot out of me, and my Tuesday thru Friday performance might suffer. Maybe if I take tomorrow off, that will make the rest of the week more productive. I'm gonna run that by the boss man at 8 AM. He's new at his job and I've got over 10 years in with the company....What do you think?  :mg:

People make fun of BABIP, but RZ’s is .161. That is simply unsustainable. It would be the lowest BABIP since 1945 by over 30 points.
Just because we want to believe our feelings over stats doesn’t make the feelings right and just because we don’t understand a stat doesn’t make it less valid.

Among qualified batters? You’d expect someone to get benched, cut, demoted long before they were allowed to put together a whole season that putrid

Even crazier is if you look at batted ball stats.  I'm not sure how reliable those are, but according to the stats listed at fangraphs, Zim's line-drive rate and hard-hit rate are actually higher than his career averages.  You'd think that would result in what would appear to be a start to a career year, but the opposite is true.

Still, at some point, you have to be results-oriented, and his production right now just ain't cuttin it.

I believe it’s among qualified batters. Here is some interesting reading.

Check out the Batters Box thread for anyone who hasn't yet. Great analysis on Zimm and how he is absolutely killing us.

I don't think you can justify anything more than Zimm only starting against LHP, and battling around 8th.  Wieters is more productive at this point.

Wrong. He should bat ninth.

Imagine someone wanting to trade for him.

Too late now, he should have been moved this off-season as a salary dump.

uh, there wasn't exactly a huge market for 1Bs this off-season.

Zimmerman has long since perfected the Zimm-O-Matic double play ball, a soft grounder to the shortstop.  It not only works for double plays, but whenever there are two outs and a man on base, as it did twice yesterday.  It's a quick, predictable, effective, and automatic rally killer.

I believe that Zimmerman had a higher OPS than every single American League DH last year, someone would have taken him on.

Zim's gonna play his whole career here and that's a good thing. His playing time this year and next may get gradually reduced. He'll retire a Nat. He'll have his jersey retired, probably sometime in 2022 or 2023.

It is with great sadness that had to drop Ryan Zimmerman from my fantasy team today. I had a strict "no one over 31" policy that I made an exception for because I got a soft spot for him and he fell to round 10 (and he hit 36 homers last year).. but I had to cut him loose.

I couldn't stand being doubly mad at him every time he lets the Nats down. And I hate to say it... he's my worst player. And that spot is usually reserved for streaming pitchers.

But I watch almost every game. So when I see a glimmer of 2017 Zim start to peek through. I'm confident I got a good shot at being the first to notice and pick him back up.

And not with a no trade clause.

And not with a no trade clause.

The Nats might have had to eat some salary, but at least one AL team should have been willing to take on a guy with his 2017 stats, those were impressive numbers. The no trade clause only means he has veto power, he doesn't belong on the field and he knows it.

You don't think he'd use it?
