I don't think we know about 2019 yet.
Is he playing on OD?

I was under the impression he is completely healthy just preparing himself in the minors. Is that not true?

They wouldn’t go with a short bench and long bullpen if he were not healthy. This is some wacky weird sabremetrics inspired experiment. I would not count on him for opening day because Cincy could be a mud pit,  but he will play at some point in that series. And if Zim sits on OD due to field conditions, then Harper and Rendon better be right next to him on the bench too.

Janes tweeted that he’s not playing today but everyone says he’s good to go. He did earlier infield drills.

Well...according to District on Deck, Harper will spell Zimm at first this year, potentially.

It's well known that he doesn't like ST. This year,  Dave let him have a long leash

We're so screwed.  No one tells us anything, he's obviously really injured.

District on Deck also thinks we should have a look at Dan Jennings, the lefty reliever the Rays just released (despite having no room on the 40-man for him, no space in the payroll and a metric ton of lefty relievers already in the 'pen) and had an article about why the Nats should pick up  Corey Dickerson (just change "lefty reliever" to "outfielder").  Big ol' pinch of salt with District on Deck.

What's the MLB record for benefitting from the can't assume a double play rule in one game?

Zim sitting out today. But so is Taylor. Assuming he wants lefties in today.

Luis Castillo’s splits are... weird. Lefties bat .30 lower than righties but slug .25 higher and strike out less.

Just a reminder; Dave Martinez was on the bench when Joe Maddon was “REPEATEDLY” calling  Ryan Zimmerman a “BIG WUSSIE” during that “walk-a-Bryce” series a year or so ago.
Don’t remember the exact numbers but, I believe Bryce was walked 12 times in that series, 6 times in one game to tie a MLB record while putting the pressure on Zimmerman.

Just my opinion but I think Martinez is laying the ground work early for not penciling in Zimmerman to each and every Playoff start. And of course it will also keep Zimmerman fresh throughout the season.

Go Nationals!!!

Davey doesn’t seem like he’s going to put loyalty ahead of performance.

PH or DH (when needed) sounds like a good role.

Matt Adams can hit.  I'm fine with giving Zim maybe 1 day off per week against a tough RHP.  Target those days as day games after night games, after a long road trip, etc.

I'd also think about putting Murph at 1B every so often and getting Kendrick more starts.  That would take a little wear and tear off Murph's legs.

:hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:

There are rumors out there saying it may not have even been Minor League games Zimmerman participated in down in Florida.
“I HEARD” a scout told the brother of my friend’s cousin, “Zimmerman only played every other inning of family whiffle-ball games on Sundays after brunch”.

That’s what I heard.

Let’s go Naaaaaaaaats!!! Win ‘em ALL!  8)

Can the word helping be removed from this thread title?

At least with the bases loaded and no outs he did not hit into a double play.

Progress?

Needs more whiffed ball swings?

Maybe some whiffed ball pepper?

I don't know why he didn't play in more spring training games, if for no other reason that to just alleviate some of the pressure to get off to a fast start.   The longer this goes on,  the worse he (and Martinez) look for their asinine plans to avoid real games.  It was a selfish move by a team leader.

He came through again today for the Mets. Nice weak ground ball with Harper on second.
