Cordero is now pitching in high leverage situations. That fact alone says it all about the remainder of the 2018 season.
Also, Justin Miller should never have been put in the situations that he has been in. He was a pleasant surprise earlier in the season, but somehow that morphed into him being the "go to" guy.
Losing Doolittle was big. I'm going to take an educated guess here that management decided to hold back his return because they wrote off the 2018 season.
Having said all that, this team was going nowhere anyway. If management sold off before July 31 (including Herrera) then the fans, including some on this message board, wouldn't have been falsely hoping that the Nats would all of a sudden go on some sort of big run.
