Only chance we have is to win 3 of 4, period. Sucks we have bad pitching matchups but 3/5 of our rotation are currently occupied by turds so that's what is going to happen.

We just went on a run against bad teams and Boswell is like "the nats are back!" but we made no movement in the standings at all, so it basically was a moral victory week where we all feel good but it's basically meaningless.

Meaningless? If they didn't go on the hot streak they would be 8 or 9 games back instead of 5.5. That doesn't seem meaningless to me. Not losing ground is just as important. In any case over the last 10 games the Nats have gone 7-3, The Phillies have gone 5-5 and the Braves have gone 6-4. So they have gained 2 games on the Phillies and 1 on the Braves.

Yep, until we're eliminated, no game is meaningless.

It's unrealistic to expect us to win 7 of 10 every time. We're going to have another cold streak again, so it becomes crucial we make up significant ground when we have a winning streak. We got unlucky, it just sucks. Still closer to 10 games back than in 1st place.

Does the timing of the wins matter? The Nats have to win 5 more games than the Phillies and 4 more games than the Braves for the rest of the season. The timing of those wins and losses does not really matter. So win all you can when you can. No game is really meaningless.

There is so much right in your post

Problem is...

This is WNFF. Where every loss is a statement game by the other team. Every win doesn't matter.

Winning 3 out 4 should be the realistic goal.  It doesn't matter which games they win.  It would be nice if we didn't have starters #7 and 8 for half the games of this series.

:lmao:
Nats won game 1 and have an early lead with Scherzer on the mound in game 2.

I stand by today isn't a just sweep. It would be helpful if the Nats did, but there are no "must win" games in August.

Correct.

There are 162 games. I try not to get upset by anything less than a bad week.

I wish I had the same perspective during Redskins season.

So far, the Phillies arent playing .500. It probably helps that they have an easy schedule.

Let's hope this loss rocks them a bit.  They blew a 2 run lead in the 9th and then fall in the 14th.
I guess the Phillies got over their Monday blown 9th inning lead.

He also kills the Braves, apparently. They play them in 7 of their last 10 games to end the season.

Is it time to end this thread?  Seriously.  Or are we just going to go through the motions until we are mathematically eliminated.  I'm okay with that.

yes, when the Phillies reach their magic number, and we're eliminated from the WC.  Until then (and after) we play the games.

Justin Bour to the Phillies.
I'm really happy for Mr. Bour.  He is finally playing meaningful games.  I feel sorry for Mr. Realmuto, who is now the last of the core group who is still down there.  Jeter and the rest of the management team down there would be served right if Realmuto gets injured and is no longer a hot commodity.  Just too greedy.

Question: Does Mike Rizzo still "believe in this team".
