Zzzzzzzzz

What a snoozer, said nothing about how he's going to lead the team. Acta 2.0

Claimed to be very creative, but plans to implement exact same system as Maddon.

Good questions from Janes and Zuckerman but they got nothing back. He's into advanced analytics, but the game is played on the field. He's going to have team dinners. Wow.

So did he bang your lady in the bedroom or the shower?

I thought Martinez did a good job of talking and not saying anything at his  introductory press conference.

I kind of wish he had just stepped up to the microphone and said "Hello, I'm Dave Martinez" and then going into a stirring rendition of "Stuck in Lerner Prison"

I'm guessing it happened behind a Tim Hortons.

Dave Martinez’s contract details, per source: 3 years for $2.8 million plus 4th-year option for $1.2 million. So would be $4 million over 4 years.

Really entertained by the people applauding this deal as a show of commitment by the Lerners when the salary has not been leaked. No chance they offered more per year than they did for Black or Williams, I'd be surprised if they didn't drop some on the annual salary in order to get the third year. My guess is $2.4-2.7 million guaranteed.

Only off by a $100K over three years. Take a two time defending division champion coming off a 97 win season and swap the manager out for a guy so desperate for a job he's willing to work for the team's lowest salary since Riggleman.

I'm wondering who leaked the salary, it makes both sides look cheap.

But you have easy access to Tim Horton's...so you are actually grossly overcompensated...  ;)

Known salaries for MLB managers in 2017. Martinez should have told the Nats to piss off with the incentives and held out for $1 mil per year.

Joe Maddon   Chicago Cubs   $5,000,000
Mike Scioscia   Los Angeles Angels   $5,000,000
Bruce Bochy   San Francisco Giants   $5,000,000
Joe Girardi   New York Yankees   $4,000,000
Buck Showalter   Baltimore Orioles   $3,500,000
Don Mattingly   Miami Marlins   $2,500,000
Dusty Baker   Washington Nationals   $1,750,000
Clint Hurdle   Pittsburgh Pirates   $1,125,000
Terry Collins   New York Mets   $1,000,000
John Gibbons   Toronto Blue Jays    $1,000,000
Kevin Cash   Tampa Bay Rays    $800,000
Mike Matheny   St. Louis Cardinals    $750,000

Pretty sure he was at an even million per year.

COTS has Williams at $1 million per year, the Nats picked up his third year option, so he made more in two years than Martinez will make in three.

I'm sitting here hoping he can just not be blatantly incompetent during playoff games.

The playoffs are far from a sure thing with this guy.

Whether we make the playoffs or not has far more to do with team health and player performance than the team manager.

Well of course a brand new manager in his first gig is not going to make what Mattingly, Bochy and Maddon make.

Also, nothing wrong with an incentive-laden contract, provided that the incentives are fairly realistic. 95 wins is a good goal; it’s lofty but attainable. 115 wins is unattainable. Give him $50k or whatever for every win above 90 or something along those lines and he’ll almost surely make solid money while the team will be protected against spending a fortune on a guy who ends up sucking.

Now you're pointing out why we should have kept Dusty.

Making is not the same as advancing and Dusty is incapable of that

Trying to load up on wins at the tail end of the season is not a good way to get a team prepared for postseason (unless you need those wins for a playoff spot).

I'd ship you some Timbits but it seems they'd get stuck at U.S customs.
