Seems like the Nats were only ever interested in Long as a hitting coach, so did they even interview anyone other than Martinez? Very unlike them to not bring in several candidates. Almost as though they had an agreement in place with old Davey before they officially passed on extending Baker. Then they waited for the Cubs to get bounced to make it official. Doesn't this break the manager code?

They'd also interviewed Martinez before. They probably had a good idea of what they wanted and what they were getting in him. No need to drag the process along when you don't have to.

The title of this thread should be "I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that."

Well, in any case I'm wondering when first contact was made, before or after Baker was notified.

Some of the detractors of Martinezs' hiring have cited no experience as a manager. Alex Cora was hired by Boston with the same resume'. It seems that both teams are in the same position of trying to get to the A-NLCS with Boston having more recent success with a WS win. I wonder if the Sox Nation is wringing their hands like some on here are doing?

First Contact was made in the second Star Trek movie with the Next Generation cast.

Up to PB69.  He  had a different point when he started his "Don't extend" thread before I merged with the traditional "Fire ..." thread.  Let it run at least for a while.

Easily the best of the TNG movies and, frankly, one of the 3 best Star Trek movies.

Current thread title expresses the conflicting feelings of confusion, anger, and acceptance of the switch. Will change to more standard title in a day or two.

@ChrisLingebach
A Nats official was crystal clear: It's "Dave" Martinez. Definitely not "Davey." No one seems sure where the Davey narrative comes from.

All the quotes I've seen from Maddon he's using Davey, but the Nats media PR staff knows better.

Welcome to Washington! Our first question is one of great importance: Do you prefer Dave or Davey?

(Laughter) I always say it’s to each person’s preference. I don’t care, either way. Everybody calls me Davey, so when they call it, I respond.

Zzzzzzzzz

What a snoozer, said nothing about how he's going to lead the team. Acta 2.0

Claimed to be very creative, but plans to implement exact same system as Maddon.

Good questions from Janes and Zuckerman but they got nothing back. He's into advanced analytics, but the game is played on the field. He's going to have team dinners. Wow.

No. The team is HAL; specifically during the playoffs.
