We'll see.  They're already forking out a heck of a lot of payroll and not seeing results.

No crap...like overpaying for him and going light on the rest of a roster is gonna change that...

That's exactly the point.  There's a lot of money tied up in guys who got paid a lot because they (a) were good and (b) were already here.  Those guys take up a lot of DL time.

he's the face of the team, and the guy who most fans come to see.  My speculation is that they don't want to give that up.

Two words for ya:

Wayne Gretzky.

If Edmonton TRADED the greatest hockey player ever to lace them up go, we can certainly let Royce walk...

Time heals all wounds...

they did that trade because the owner was going bankrupt and needed the money.

Quisling, er, Pocklington traded him 2 hours after winning their third straight Cup, and he still had Messier and they won again 2 years later.

Nats don't have a lot of bright lights to draw from at the moment.

The reason doesn't matter...time heals all wounds.  Royce is not gonna signal the demise of the Nats...

Harper hasn't exactly played like Gretzky either...we'll get over it...

Fans will come to see a winning team, more than they will come to see Harper on an under .500 team.  Just win baby.

He's more of a Jimmy Carson than a Wayne Gretzky, that's for sure.

Here is the thing about Harper.....let's say he leaves this offseason and signs with Chicago or LAD with some mega deal.  When he returns to Nationals Park, I really don't think the fans will react much one way or the other.  Assuming he doesn't torch this place when he leaves, I don't think he gets lustily booed, and I don't think he gets a great standing ovation.  Guys like Desmond and Ramos probably got stronger receptions.  (Now if he goes to Philly, he will get booed.)

He'll get a standing ovation first at bat, then booed mercilessly thereafter.  Just like Werth in Philly, when he joined the Nats.

I don't think it will be even close to the treatment Werth got in philly.

Werth helped philly win- that gets you an ovation. Bryce will leave here with his time being seen as a disappointment

If Bryce gets the contract he's hoping for, I'd be happy for him to go to Philly- I don't want him going there on a lesser deal though

If the Phillies are in town, they'll probably try talking to Harper.

Werth brought that on himself with the I hate Philly comment. If Harper said I hate DC I would hope that he'd be booed for the rest of his career.
