I'd bet one one of Zim or Revere turning it around.

1B: Murphy, with Turner at 2nd
CF: Turner in CF

I'd be happy with this. I'd almost say they could platoon Revere and Zimmerman. Plug Turner in where needed. We'd have a deep bench of defensive subs and pinch hitters for late game situations.

Platoon them with who?

Murphy on first, Turner on 2nd, or Murphy on 2nd, Turner in CF would be the only way to effectively platoon those two.

Trouble is, there is no point. If Turner can play CF, Robinson is better than Revere anyway.

We're not throwing Turner in CF this season in a meaningful MLB game.

Revere hits lefties better, and always has, so I don't think he's a platoon candidate.

I think we're getting either Chapman or Miller as well as Blackmon.

"Revere" and "hit" don't even belong in the same sentence right now.

How about this one: "Oh snap!  Revere is up, obviously he won't get a hit."

Or: "Hit me with another shot bar keep, looks like Revere is at bat and I can't watch."

Just got an ESPN update that the Yankees are interested in Lopez. Maybe he's part of a deal for Chaplin or Miller?

It's ESPN. They don't need a source.

Interesting article on the Nats trade options

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nationals/the-trade-deadline-is-approaching-and-the-nats-have-the-depth-to-make-a-deal/2016/07/19/3e8f4a20-4dd8-11e6-aa14-e0c1087f7583_story.html
Our pitching is so loaded.

Our farm system came into the season looking like three guys and a pretty good one (Lopez), and not much else. The top prospects have all produced, guys like Ward and Goodwin have had bounceback seasons, and players like Schrock and Glover have come out of nowhere. Lots of quality.

Agree - but if our pitching is so loaded, why is anyone advocating the Nats get a reliever from the Yankees ?

Speak for yourself. Not interested in either of Miller or Chapman if the price is too high, and right now, the price is too damn high for a RP.

We have the best ERA in baseball and I don't know how to find that restricted to relief but I'm guessing we have the best ERA for relief.  I think what this is all about is the closer. We don't need a long, middle, or setup guy.  I think there is general paranoia that we will end up in postseason with Papelbon as the closer.

(And from what I say in the ninth inning last night, who knows, we might just have the closer we need.)

Acquiring someone like Miller does a number things. One, it gives the Nat probably the best reliever in baseball. (At worst, top 3) Two, it prevents the Cubs/Pirates/Giants from adding him, obviously. Three, it solidifies the late-game bullpen, and while our ERA is fine right now, I'd feel better with Miller or Chapman in the 8th/9th than what we have now. It just makes us a lot better, and if there's one thing we should have learned from 2012 and 2014, it's that thinking things are "fine" because our regular season performance is adequate is not good enough. You can never have enough good players.
