Does Boswell actually read anyone else's work? There have been multiple articles about how the "Coors field effect" is a product of making hitters look good at home as they adjust to less break, and look terrible away as balls break more. Good hitters will still hit outside that environment as the adjust to other parks.

ALL CAPS THOUGH

I'm really curious to how Chapman and Papelbon would co-exist.

Yeah, I think the Coors effect is mostly a myth.

2012 - Rockies trade Marco Scutaro to Giants. Scutaro becomes World Series hero
2014 - Seth Smith has his best hitting season, after leaving Colorado
2014-16 - Dexter Fowler leaves Colorado, becomes an even better hitter

The only real "proof" is Tulowitzki and he is banged up.

The Dickerson/McGee trade has been a lose-lose. Cuddy was good enough to draw a QO... Holiday has been pretty good, post-Coors.

Some chatter that we are kicking the tires on Chris Archer ( http://districtondeck.com/2016/07/19/washington-nationals-trade-traget-chris-archer/ ), but seems so much more likely that we actually have been scouting Alex Colome.

They're all in or they're not. They aren't going to get the help they need this year from dealing Chapman alone. Either they are willing to trade off Mateo, Judge, or Sanchez for the starting pitching they need, or they are going to punt this year.

Exactly what I mean. Dealing Chapman is punting just this year (like Tigers dealing Price last year) whereas Miller would signal more of a rebuild.

I'd bet one one of Zim or Revere turning it around.

1B: Murphy, with Turner at 2nd
CF: Turner in CF

No and no. YOu need a legit bat in CF. Turner aint' it. You need to figure out something for first base.

Revere is over halfway through the season and hits like crap. Zim is freaking done.

Oh, OK, if you say so (on both parts).  I suppose you mean like Andres Torres, Jon Jay, Angel Pagan, and Gregor Blanco, all of whom have been starting CFs on World Series champions since 2010.  And I suppose a guy with an .802 OPS in the majors this year and who's hit consistently throughout the minors can't hit based on a 40 at bat sample from last year.  Other than that, great.

Torres OPS 2010: .823
Jay 2011: .768
Pagan 2012: .778
Ellsbury 2013: .781
Pagan 2015: .731
Cain: .838

Ben Revere: .559
Michael Taylor: .658

Yea, I'd say CF is kind of important. Turner isn't playing CF. They aren't going to throw some guy with no time out there who's never played the OF.

Yup, Revere has to go. He's awful with the bat and glove. I know a ton of people disagree, but TT is not the answer at CF this season, either.

We have the exact same offensive problem that we had in 2013, 2014, and 2015. You cannot rely on big innings and the long ball. This lineup doesn't really become productive until they get to the third time through the order. Batting average jumps 25 points and OPS jumps almost 100. Which is fine in the regular season. But in the playoffs, it's not. You're highly unlikely to get to the starting pitcher the third time through the order. There's no need to rest a pen in the playoffs. By the 6th inning, you're looking at a new pitcher every inning. And those guys are coming out, giving it everything they have because they know they're only going one inning and this could be the season right here.

Revere is sucking something awful. He had a nice June and we thought he was turning it around,  but has come out the break sucking something awful. We can't count on him to be regular starter, much less a top of the order bat. More than that, we need another bat that is low on strikeouts and makes contact. Someone like a Melky Cabrera or Kole Calhoun.

Pagan didn't play in the 2014 series - Blanco (.707) did.  Most of the rest of those (Ellsbury and Cain aside) were mediocre players playing above their norms, and (not surprisingly) they didn't hit much in the playoffs:

Torres OPS 2010: .719
Jay 2011: .480
Pagan 2012: .578
Ellsbury 2013: .846
Blanco 2014: .464
Cain 2014: .704

So, whatever they did in the regular season, it seems most of them didn't do much in the playoffs.  I'm not against trying to get a better CF, but let's not pretend that a star (or even productive) centerfielder is some magic bullet for playoff success.  And as for putting Turner there - of course not, but the biggest concern isn't his bat.

The report on Blackmon “is not accurate,” Nationals GM Mike Rizzo said this morning in an interview with 106.7’s The Sports Junkies (via 106.7’s Pete Medhurst, on Twitter).

I'm okay with not getting Blackmon. Sub .700 OPS last season and the season before. Increase in strikeouts away from Coors. He struggles with breaking balls, which will be more dramatic away from Coors.

Plus, when has Rizzo ever admitted to a rumor being accurate? When have the predictions about his moves ever been solid?
