Wally is an jerk. His style won't play at the major league level. Watch some of the stuff from his DVD on youtube, very NSFW as you might assume. It's one thing to fire your players up, it's another to just berate and belittle them. Maybe he wouldn't try that in the bigs, when he's talking to professionals who are making more than he'll make in a lifetime in just one month, but it seems it's in his character. He's a wifebeater. So the freak with that guy, let the Mets have him.
We don't need a motivator, Matt did that fine last year, his philosophy worked fine last year, and following a couple team meetings the team bounced back, in Atlanta in April through May and then in Tampa Bay through til the ASB. We need someone who actually knows baseball strategy, who can manage a freaking bullpen and create better opportunities for his players, either in the lineup or in pinch hitting scenarios, etc. Buck Showalter routinely turns the likes of Brad Brach and Jimmy Paredes (who?) into Dennis Eckersley and Edgar Martinez. Matt Williams actually negates some of the positives of his players either in defensive alignment or position in the lineup. I don't know that ole Wally would be any better, or worse.
