I am so computer illiterate i have no idea how to embed the tweet, but Harp just said he will hopefully be a Nat for life, this is a huge quote, but he really needs to mean it or the implications to a fanbase are so huge.

Harper is also worth a lot of money in ticket sales, tv ratings, and merchandise sales.  In a lot of ways his salary is subsidized by his draw.  It's time to sign him.  Boras has to realize that there is some reward in taking the money now, doesn't he?  There's always a chance he could go a couple more injury plagued seasons.  Can't they agree somewhere in the 350-400 range?  I don't know what it is like in the Washington metro area, but even here in Richmond, if you asked any kid who's played or watched a baseball game who their favorite player is, more than half would say Bryce Harper.  That's huge in growing a successful franchise.

On the other hand though... if a signing is not in the cards, then go ahead and trade him.  There's no way they let him play his walk year unsigned.  He is never going to be worth more in a trade than he is now.  If he's not going to sign now, then really it is next winter that they have to sign or trade him.  So unless he's going to sign, we only have one or two more years of him.  It's time for the Lerners to crap or get off the pot as far as Harper is concerned.

MVP

Repeating myself:

- Hit for power like Harmon Killebrew in 1959 and Roy Sievers in 1957 (Harmon tied for lead in homers; Roy led AL)
- Got walks like Eddie Yost (who led AL in walks about eight times)
- Hit for average like Mickey Vernon (twice AL batting champ

I agree.  I think it was an underrated season that compares only to Bonds in my 35-40 years of watching baseball.

His trade value will never be higher

I thought you wanted to dump him last year?

Been saying that since he got here. He's as good as gone.

And this year. He's gone in three years and the Nats are too cash strapped to put together a contender with the albatross contracts they already have.

Congrats to Bryce.  And who said it would not be unanimous?  Raise your hands. Can't expect a year like 2015 again but hoping he can put up all star numbers and keep improving the defense.  And base running.

When I see people noting how the Nats were one of the better offenses in the league last year I laugh because most of that was this guy.

Anyone who didn't vote for him would have been suspect.  It's not like someone else had a year like Donaldson or Trout.

Maybe he should start playing with oreos on the railing of the dugout to get in pitchers' heads.

Bryce Harper is your NL MVP! The 23-year-old is the first player in franchise history to accomplish the feat.

Thanks, Bryce, for bringing such a high and rare honor to the DC area, which was starved for baseball's return for 34 years.

I believe he does crave the big time.  Yanks or Dodgers or maybe Sox.  And I can't blame him.  We could win 5 WS in a row and we'd still be nowehre close to those the tradition, fanabse, and hostory of thos teams.

I say we bite the bullet on this kid, we cant afford to spen 35-40 million per year on one player for over a decade.  Its foolish.  Play him one more year, then trade him before 2017.  I would however, offer him some sort of bridge deal....like a 2-3 yr extension for 100-150 million.  See if he's willing to make a couple more years of commitment to DC at an insane per year amount and then still hit FA a couple years later and get his huge deal.

Buit we gotta trade him, its the smart play for THIS franchise.

The likelihood that the Nats get a return that will equal the production of Harper in a trade is very very low. He needs a monster contract tonstay and the Nats should offer it. It goes beyond on the field stuff.
