It's not even that I think Matt doesn't have knowledge of the game, it's that I feel like he stands and leaves everyone standing around with their dick in their hand. Step up and get vocal. Slam one of these primadonnas into a freaking locker

Matt Williams still doesn't think anything is wrong.  That should be a fireable offense.

I've been staying away from the Williams discussion, but I'm really starting to not be a fan of him. Why did Rizzo have such a hard-on for him as opposed to going with someone with, you know, experience?

Because he worked for Arizona, and Rizzo is hell-bent on making us the Arizona Diamondbacks of the East.

Ya know, except without the World Series title.

Pass. I never pine for 100 loss seasons.

Brian Scheider was on a .500 team.  Just like this one will be, only that one was a hell of a lot more fun.

What is Rizzo's plan?
Stay the course. Pretend this repeated ownage by Atlanta doesn't exist.

The Nats refuse to acknowledge it. It's just stunning to see veterans like Werth and Zimmerman mentally affected by it more than anybody.

That's better than the crap we hear Matt say over and over

Matt Williams is a moron.  Worst Nats manager ever, and that includes Manny Acta.

I actually do think he's too intellectually insufficient to have this job.

Maybe this whole thing is a giant Lerner plan for Take Back the Park part II

True. I actually thought it was pretty funny myself (I don't advocate domestic violence) - the media blows these comments out of proportion.

I'm hoping that's simply a public posture.

He was also on teams that lost 90 games twice. This team will is working on its 3rd consecutive season with a winning record. That trumps losing with nice guys every freaking time in my book.

The repeated extra inning losses on our home field just make me want to hurl. It's the same crap every time. The bullpen does a great job and after several innings has a mishap. The offense on the otherhand goes completely silent even vs second-rate pitching and can't win the game.

Fire somebody. Start with the hitting coach and maybe that will wake everyone else - including Williams - up.

I don't know. The losses didn't hurt as much when there were no expectations.

This crap the last two years has been just freaking brutal. Next year is pretty much the last chance the Nats have before the core is broken apart by free agency, old age, etc.

Rizzo being fed to the metaphorical lions would be the ideal message to send.

...and I've always thought a balk was called a ball if there was no base-runner.

Well, either I read the balk rule, or I read every at-bat and play in the June 12th, 1967 game between the Nats and the White Sox. See DC Baseball History:
http://dcbaseballhistory.com/2014/06/this-day-in-d-c-baseball-history-casanovas-long-night/

Night game went 22 innings in six hours and 38 minutes. I was listening from Chicago but gave up around midnight. Paul Cas-a-NO-va won it with a base-hit to score Hank Allen. Gary Sarnoff, author of "The Wrecking Crew of '33" says that Cassie claimed he could have caught another 22 innings if it had been necessary.

Ah, just to read the names of the players: Frank Howard homered and was pulled for Allen; Bernie Allen, Hank Allen, Ken McMullen, Mike Epstein (when Epstein hit one into the upper deck at DC/RFK Stadium, they painted the seat blue). White Sox starter was Joel Horlen. They had Tommy Agee, plus Ron Hansen...who made an unassisted triple-play as a SS for the Nats.

What makes you think this team is guaranteed to finish with a winning record?  They've played .500 ball all year.  A couple more guys get hurt and this team could easily find itself in fourth or fifth place.

I saw Bernie Allen play HS football.      :old:

I think the pitcher is supposed to be able to trust the judgement of the catcher.   The catcher should have the better idea of how to attack a batter.  I can imagine the nightmare of being a pitcher with a catcher who's an idiot.
