But with a runner, wouldn't it be a balk? And...isn't it at least a no-pitch with noboy on?

Your suggestion that it should be a no pitch has merit, IMO. They have deemed that it's part of his natural delivery so they don't call anything as long as he is consistent with it. That way he can't use altering his delivery to fool baserunners.

You know what, this is on the fans. They should be booing the everliving freak out of the team.

Hopefully the ladies have these in the Nats locker room to stop the bleeding after the game:

They'll just shrug it off and bend over for them again tomorrow. It's on FOX too so the whole nation gets to see it (at least everyone in the red shaded areas):

How is it they have no problem plating 2 vs Kimbrel but can't even get a runner to second base in the 4 innings after??

Werth should be held accountable. His ABs were embarrassing. That three pitch K vs Buchter sticks in my craw.

And Zimmerman. Wtf is he doing out there? His DPs are killer. He's not hitting the ball hard. He's taking fastballs down the middle.

Williams should have put ROSS in.  With how anemic our offense is once we reach extra-innings, he might have the mind-set that he's starting and prepare for six innings of work.

Cool, didn't know that.   I always thought the batter gets a ball call on a "balk" with no one on.

I've heard a lot of people say this.

The Nats had it easy these last two games vs mediocre pitcher. Tomorrow they face Teheran who is actually good.

I'm calling Fister getting lit up too. Tomorrow will be an ugly blowout loss. Maybe we can salvage Sunday like the last time the Nats played the Braves at home.

At least New Mexico won't see it.

No. A balk is meant to prevent pitchers from fooling baserunners. It has no use with no one on base.

What keeps a pitcher from winding up as he runs toward the hitter? (I used to know this stuff when I umpired Little League...we had a couple of coaches who were lawyers. They'd work every cheating trick they could.)

:spit:

Some said they would be satisfied with a split. At least having that loser mentality gives you hope that the series is still salvageable.  :?

At this point, I'd be ecstatic if we managed a split.

I think the hitter holding a bat keeps that from happening

I'd be ecstatic with winning one. Sad state of affairs.

Can't believe we are going to completely waste two "prime" years in our competing window away because we can't beat Atlanta.

The Phillies are about to beat the Cardinals on the road for the second straight night (only 3.5 games back)...... The Nats should be ashamed.

I think the Braves have finally turned the corner.  They will dominate everyone for a month now.  We'll be 21.5 games back by August first.  Book it Danno.  I hate almost everything about this team right now.
