Only the Tigers have a bigger divisional lead than the Nats. (The Orioles also have a 3.5 game lead...)

6th best record in baseball, 2nd in the NL.

It's an old Pirates' saying when Willie Stargell would hit a homerun.    He had a chicken joint in the Hill District of Pittsburgh and when he hit a homerun, Bob Prince (avatar) would say that.   I think whoever was in the joint got free chicken or something like that.     It denotes great joy in "yunzers".

Very realistic chance the Braves go 0-9 on this west coast trip
0-8 is the worst they can go because it's only a two game series in Seattle.

12 balls in a row and the Padres still can't win the game. What the freak! :hang:

Game.

Is anyone wrong more than you? I applaud your consistency, though.

If the Nats had a slugger like Willie, they'd be about 10 games up right now.  What a fearsome swing, I loved the way he kind of wound up before the pitch like a big wind turbine, he could sure hit them a long way.  Great guy too.

I swear I saw Stargell in an exhibition game at Forbes Field in 1961 or '62.     Anyway, I have a Stargell "We Are Family" figurine from just after he passed.    My sister gave it to me.    "Pops" was tops   ...   maybe there were some others as well, like "the Great One".    :P

Someone please post quotes from the braves forum. They have to be going SF'esque by now (we get that daily no matter what :?).  :lmao:

Could go either way. Have to avoid being swept there at all costs. That would get them right back in the race. Still 6 more games vs them beyond this weekend too.

For one of the few times I can remember, given the Braves' struggles and the Nats staying afloat, I feel somewhat good about the team. Baltimore will be tough tomorrow, and I'm sure most (if not all) Mets games will be close low-scoring affairs, but I think the Nats have bought some valuable time. Pretty soon they'll be facing the calendar as much as the Braves.

Not to mention Seattle isn't an easy series-win this year. I don't expect the Braves to cruise through that series but if the Nats can handle themselves even moderately and step the freak up when we play Atlanta, we're in good shape right now. No excuses from this point on, barring Ebola taking most of the team.
