I had absolutely no problem with what he did. The man was pumped up about that jack he had just crushed into McCovey Cove.

Cabrera had some clutch hits, but on the whole he was not really much of an improvement.

I think that was the distinction. Cabrera's hits, when he got them, came up big. But his defense was meh.

What they are probably overlooking is what went on at Nationals Park the night Harper hit the first moonshot off Strickland. Strickland was so pissed off that he stared Harper down with a dirty look as Harper rounded the bases. Strickland must be the type that gets bent out of shape when you own him by going deep because he did the same thing to Cabrera when he took him yard. I'm sure Harper had heard about it so the next time he owned him he looked back at him and gave him a piece of his mind. freak Strickland. I hate pitchers who can't accept that someone can get the best of them.

That's actually not what happened.  Strickland looked absolutely pissed at himself after the 2 Game 1 homers, not directed at the hitters. Then after Game 4, the quotes between Harper and Strickland were mutual respect. Harper said something like "I was impressed he had the cojones to throw me a fastball." Strickland's quote was to the effect of "I had no problem with what he did, I look forward to facing him again." Mutual respect and healthy jawing between two young studs, all good for the game. Only the media found anything to fault, of course.

Baseball fans/players/writers who get upset at what Harper did honestly are just the worst. 100% of those people are OWGs.

Surprised they didn't imply that one of them had Ebola.

I believe 3Kespi made more errors in his infrequent defensive appearances since Cabrera joined the team than Cabrera made the entire time he was with us.

Disgusting.

Had far more range. We know Espinosa is a good defensive second baseman.

I could read Harper's lips and his conversation from the dugout had little to do with mutual respect.

I couldn't read his lips and have yet to read a serious account of what he said or what that was all about. So please share.

In a way, I'm beginning to feel the same way. To be honest with you, I don't think I've ever been in the position of supporting an athlete that seems to be so hated by the opposition so it's new territory for me.

But I think the kid (mostly) gets unfairly scrutinized and criticized by the haters. The whole wiping the A thing got me thinking that way. I bet hundred of players do that every year and it doesn't make SportsCenter. And the overreaction to him saying he wanted to play center: He's a 21 year old kid and he's gonna say stupid crap. Again, the whole world seemed to know about that. That's the age of social media and 24-hour cable sports channels that we live in, I guess.

You and I both know that errors are a poor measure of defence.

Cabrera is flashy and played well. His range isn't very good.

He hit in some situations that made us not notice that on average he didn't hit any better than Espinosa.

Given that I wasn't here back then, the joke that I am Canada is getting really old.

Do I have to read all his posts to understand? Send me the thread that got him banned?

Every time I see Harper between innings -- stretching, loosening up -- in the OF, he shows every sign of being a decent young man. He won't sign baseballs for grown-ups, but he has lots of patience for kids. That is just right. I don't need an autographed baseball, and there are some who might put Harper's autograph on EBay. A kid won't.

He's be the youngest player at Syracuse, or Harrisburg.  At Potomac, he's only be the 2nd youngest.  Definitely aging rapidly.
