Scratch Ellsbury off the list. 7 year deal with the Yankees.

Hell yea we do. We want a bat. It's funny how removing LaRoche out of the lineup could be a huge fix.

Cano seems to be such an obvious fit. Zim to first, Rendon to 3rd, Cano to second. You're basically killing 3 birds with one stone. It's so obvious it's probably not gonna happen lol

I actually think Cano would be better at third.

It sounds like Zim talked to Rizzo and Rizzo wants him to stay at 3B.  I guess we really are going to see the same lineup again, which is pretty disappointing.

Sign Cano and trade Rendon for Price.

Yeah, because Rizzo is definitely going to tell us what he has planned, right?  I mean, he always does that.

He didn't tell us.  Rizzo told his 3B that he wants him to stay at 3B.  Maybe the team brings in a surprise 1B or moves Rendon to 1B, but after the comments about Rizzo plainly saying he doesn't see Cano as a fit and now this, I don't expect them to be in on Cano.  Let's go with Mike's track record here for doing things way under the radar.  Maybe the Nats still make a big move, but I'm thinking the big move was probably Fister.  I'm alright with leaving Zim and Rendon in their respective places right now, but at the very least, I'd improve 1B rather than hoping LaRoche rebounds.

If Cano is really not on the Nats radar, and the Mariners are willing to "Werth contract" him, maybe the Nats should just focus on Napoli at 1B on a 3 or 4 year deal.  Napoli actually was very good defensively at 1B last season, and although he isn't a prototypical middle of the order bat, I think he would slot perfectly as a number 5 hitter.  The strikeouts are definitely concerning, but he has tremendous upside.

so if we want to take a realistic stab at who he might go for if he's planning to replace LaRoche, we need to find someone with 2 or more years of team control, who is a solid fielder, and who can provide some LH pop.  I'm not sure there's anyone out there, given those constraints, that exceeds what we should get from LaRoche.

Then again.... Brandon Moss?

And Paul Goldschmidt. If we had Paul Goldschmidt, our offense would be pretty frickin bueno.

The Tigers pulled the biggest fleece in history, on us.  We'll never get even.

Nats Arms Race notes that Corey Brown is out of options, probably DFA candidate but could get claimed

Yes, all things being equal, I believe that Rizzo did prolly tell Zimm he would be at 3B.  However, he isn't going to to tell Zimm what he is planning.  This is just like a college football coaching search....they all spout off on how they are happy where they are, and thne they bolt for greener pastures.

You're not going to get any hints about what Rizzo is doing.  Maybe he has no intentions w Cano at all?  very possible. But given what he could mean to this team as a near perfect fit, the money they have, the sneakiness they have shown, I am 100000% certain we are in on this.  Dont know what will happen, but it is a possibilty.

I didn't know you were an old timer. Help the kids out and give them a name or two.
