Huh? 49ers averaged 2.3 yards a carry, including Kapernick. They had a running back rush five yards are more three times. Neild did his job.
Maybe it was the giants game that I saw that in but I saw him get manhandled on every play and not by double teams. He consistently gets absorbed by the center. freak it, I have an hour before going out so I'll go back and watch every snap he played in those games to make sure.
18 plays. Blocked by center 13 times, 4 by rg 1 by lg. He was sealed with ease and was pushed beyond the line of scrimmage repeatedly with two exceptions. In the second quarter on a 1st and 10 he made a nice move to his right and created penetration so he was actually near where the tackle was made by Kerrigan. On his next to last play (4th quarter) he stood his ground at the line of scrimmage against the rg blocking down on him and caused the runner to turn right and get tackled by Wilson. Otherwise he was absolutely destroyed and this by a center. If only Montgomery could go up against the likes of him! I wish you could see the way he was handled by the center. If his job was to get owned by the center then he was exceptional. On one play at the goal line he was the only one of the entire 6 man line that was driven backwards into the endzone.

One time he actually contributed by helping the RT of the 49ers block Kerrigan.

The DB's played a decent game in supporting the run that game. Unfortunately Wilson got owned in the passing game.
Much better in the Giants game although he only had 5 snaps. Absolutely destroyed by the center on one play where not only did the guard not help chip him but the center actually handled him with such ease that he disengaged and proceeded to the second level of the defense and blocked Orakpo as well. Then he got pushed downfield 5 yards by the center.

But his last two plays were good. After he got pwned 5 yards downfield, on the very next play he got doubled on a pass play and penetrated enough to affect Manning's pocket. Then he came in on a 1st and goal and lined up in the 1 technique and got great penetration. Dove at the ball carrier's legs and nearly made the tackle. Perhaps he just isn't strong enough to play the zero technique and that's why he gets so easily handled by centers. Maybe he can be much better at playing DT I just have to wonder if he has the quickness and athleticism to be effective there on a regular basis.
