So does new coach get to draft a qb?  The Shanahan regime took the pile of garbage viny left poured some gasoline on it and left the next coach a flaming pile of crap

I'm sure it will be used in the sports shows on ESPN Radio and WJFK. But, yea, it was kind of awesome. He wouldn't name a starter for next week

Hopefully not,  retreads seldom end well (how many coaches have rings with multiple teams?), is there anyone promising who was recently fired,  sometimes a guy who fails in their first shot still has some left over drive. Snyder isn't selling any time soon,  so hopefully having one of 32 jobs,  an owner willing to spend,  and the prospect of coaching RG3 is enough to get someone

Art Briles, come on down. I'm not advocating it Spidey but seriously, you know Snyder will try it.

At this point,  you have a lot invested in a qb,  and you know he and rg3 can work together -  I'd take him over a gruden

while I agree that they have a good history together, you're probably just gonna create another disaster.

This    ...   ya need someone who's a good QB/offensive coach with no history with RGIII.    IMHO  ...  RGIII ain't gonna take ya to the promised land.

I think its way too early to say that but I fear that he may not get the chance as dysfunctional as the organization is.

I can say it 'cause I got no dog in the fight.    :)     The new coach has to have the balls to say to Danny, "I'm in charge."     I keep thinking about "The Tuna" who told Jerry Jones, "Don't come into the locker room.    Don't come on the sidelines."     If you want an attitude as a coach, you need someone like Cowher.

The Redskins have invested way too much in RGIII and saw way too much promise from him as a rookie to give up on him in his second year after he missed the whole offseason and was on a team that sucked in almost every single way. Barring something crazy he will be our starter next season and beyond. I am sick of his off field act but this team needs to develop him instead of looking for yet another guy.

Don't give up on him but somebody needs the John Thompson school of thought,  "Shut up and sit down.   You're not in charge son."

For the past four years the owner has left an experienced coach and gm in charge.  That coach has failed- what 'functional'  organization would keep shanny around after this run? (then again what functional organization trades three firsts and a second for the second best prospect in a draft)

Again, he looked like a stud last season and then missed the whole offseason and is on a team collapsing all over the place. This isn't all on him. and if Rex Grossman can take a team to the Super Bowl, I think RGIII will be just fine.

We're on the same page Smithian.    However, the coach needs to be in charge, not a 2nd year QB.   I know I'm an outsider but that's the way I see it.

Tomlin may be available.

That should improve the special teams unit.  :?

I think Shanahan gets what he wants and gets fired tomorrow leaving Halsett as interim coach. Griffin may be a diva who will get coaches fired when he doesn't get his way but Shanahan is also a piece of crap (IMO). This was a toxic match from the outset destined to fail.

HS is puzzling. He doesn't seem to like anyone with the organization (except for maybe Snyder).

I agree. And I think some of this team's problems can be traced back to RGIII being a massive distraction throughout the offseason. It got ridiculous in training camp.

By every indication, he's a very smart and courteous person. Hopefully he learned from this offseason or Allen/new GM can pull him aside and let him know the power starts with a head coach and goes on down. It isn't shared.

I hope the new coach comes in with a plan to mold this franchise around RGIII for the next decade while also letting him know who is in charge, a la a Belichick/Brady or Coughlin/Manning. The QB may be a star but you know who is in charge.
