You have got to stop mothering him like he's your oldest child or something. He's a public figure. It's OK to make certain jokes. There are lines and I have not crossed them. And you certainly don't get to draw the lines anyway. If a whole lot of people on this board get offended, then I would stop.

I'm not offended at all.

I just see it as your way of making yourself believe it's all going to be ok when Fielder chooses someone else over the Nats.

I think it's Hamilton.  To be honest, I don't think they have a clear cut FOTF.  I think they need an identity.

Not related at all. But thanks for the psychoanalysis. He will still look fat in whatever uniform he wears.

And he'll still help any team he goes to win more games.

I always thought baseball was about scoring more runs than your opponent... not who fills out a uniform better.

Yes, we agree. I'm just having a bit of fun. He's a great player and it would be great to have him on the Nats if a deal can be struck. If not, then so be it. I would still make fun of his weight either way. It's really not as big of a deal as you're making it out to be but I will stop if you want.

I doubt Linty is personally offended.  I doubt anyone here is truly offended, but I'm guessing most of them find the constant fat jokes just a bit tasteless.

I really don't care.

As I said, it's your way of coping.

If I could play baseball for tens of millions a year I would gladly put on a couple hundred pounds and let the world call me Shamu.

Well, at least it's cheaper than therapy.

I will now stop the fat jokes since chief said they were tasteless (no pun intended.)

Pfft. I remember in gameday threads when we were playing the Brewers that people made jokes about home plate having a weight limit.

Now, sign Prince. And beef up home plate!

I really don't care.

As I said, it's your way of coping.

There is a tradition in baseball of making fun of fat guys.  Some guys take it in stride - Todd Coffey, David Wells, John Kruk, etc.

Not kidding.

Huge fan. But I'm not wasting my money and time on a team that could win now but refuses to because they're cheap.

We're not going to the playoffs in 2012. Not if we don't sign Fielder. Strasburg will be done mid August. I seriously don't see Wang making it through the season. So the back end of rotation is going to be Lannan, Detwiler, and .... ? Not confidence inspiring.

On top.of that, the offense will still suck. We're still going to he tops in strikeouts. The wont.bench.Desmond, despite the fact that he's awful. Morse will regress. Werth will cave under the pressure. Zimmerman will just get fed up with it all and decide he's not coming back. Harper will struggle a lot, at first, like he always does.

Basically, theyre telling me we're not ready yet and won't be until Rendon, Purke and Goodwin get here. So yea, back to the two year plan. Glad they locked up Gio. But frankly, its just wasting years if we don't get him more than two runs per game.

Like I said, I'll go to opening day because I missed it four years running and I'll tune in for Strasburg. Maybe Harper's debut. But beyond that, this season seems pointless to me without Fielder. We already proved we can play .500 ball. Five games above it is five games out of the wild card.

While you're on a roll, can I get the Powerball numbers for this coming Saturday?

Yep. That's one mountain of doom.

It's about enjoying the journey, not just the destination.

Writing off the 2012 season off already, eh Bart?

Quote from: Lesson for the day, ``Homer at the Bat''
Marge: What makes you think this Darryl Strawberry character is better than you?

Homer: Marge, forget it.  He's bigger than me, faster than me, stronger than me, and he already has more friends around the plant than I do.

Bart:  You make me sick, Homer.  You're the one who told me I could do anything if I just put my mind to it!

Homer: Well, now that you're a little bit older, I can tell you that's a crock!  No matter how good you are at something, there's always about a million people better than you.

Bart:  Gotcha.  Can't win, don't try.
