Why are we the only team that's so dumb. I mean where are the other teams on fielder with as much rumors as us. One day we're the leading choice then the next day we are out of it. Just offer the prince something big or gtfo of there.

Would be crazy to see them go from 60's in 2010 payroll to 120 in 2012.

their new TV deal alone brings in $80 million per, so not that crazy

Crazy as in, awesome that the ownership is willing to support the team in such a strong way.

It's really too bad the Lerners aren't likely to go bankrupt any time soon.

Me too, I much prefer him on my radio than as my GM.

This is an interesting listen.

OMG. Jim says that the Team runs everything big through a Board of Directors.... that sounds like a mess.

That's been a rumour for a very long time, hasn't it?

I figured everyone accepted it as facts a long time ago, maybe not?

That news came out in 2007.  The GM needs to put together a business case for all moves.

Of course old man Lerner is free to make deals with Boras without saying a thing to the board.

If I was a GM, I think I'd just want to know what my budget was for the next 5 years or so and then be free to operate within those parameters....

PS - some useful contributions recently from a few of the newer posters!

Well thanks, it's so strange to be on a board where I can say a suggestion I have for the Nats and the like and not get flamed and attacked beyond belief for it. I'm too used to the hockey message boards where all Caps fans are pessimists and all fans of other good teams are obnoxious.

Every boss I've ever had is an idiot which is why I insist on complete autonomy as a requirement for my services.

Check out what they are saying in Taiwan re Fielder:

I think she made some rather salient points in that intro.

Prince big or Werth big, I would hope so- those are $100 million plus decisions that will be on the books for the better part of a decade. Forbes has the team valued at $417 million, so you're talking about a contract worth more than a quarter of the entire franchise. If he means Gio trade big, that's another issue

Yeah - agreed.  Depends on what is meant by 'everything big.'  It's not ideal, but it's probably to be expected.

Pretty sure he means sunflower seeds and extra bats big.  No joke, that was what was reported back in 07, the old man (chairman of the board) reviews every line item.  Rizzo has zero authority to spend money without approval.
