You're forgetting that the team is playing at a better stadium now.

RFK was fine, the 400 level seats were a great vantage point, the third base side bounced, RH&B BBQ, fantastic parking and highway access.  The outfield seats were terrible and there was no playground, but otherwise it was a fine park for watching a game.  Of course Nats Park is vastly superior, but RFK was fine.

Ray, I'm afraid I've got to challenge your mindfacts.

Average Nats attendance 2005 = 33,728.
August attendance                    = 37,471
September attendance              = 31,274
combined Aug Sept average      = 33,839

That's quite a drop off.  We played mostly division teams that September and the Barry Bonds Giants as well, so it wasn't the opponents.  It may have been colder weather, but a quick Google search returns a reference to that month as one of the driest ever in DC.  Most likely it was schools back in session and the Redskins season starting.

Way to miss the point.

Ok, August was good, because we were in the thick of the race for the whole month, and in first place nearly the whole month. Nevermind that we were playing badly, things would heat up in September we all thought. When things didn't attendance tumbled.  31k was not good, given (as I recall) that we were steadily drawing close to 40k in early April, and for good parts of June and much of July.

Dude, I dunno about others, but for me, I more or less stop paying attention to the Nats in September. First of all, school starts, and more importantly, it's football time.

There's also the he's not signing with a crappy team argument. Ms os and cubs are turrible.

The Os are dying team with a crap owner in a crap town.  The Cubs will always be losers but don't think for a second they're ever going to be irrelevant.  The Mariners are in a funk but don't think that's going to happen forever.

Without skipping back to read the original post I'm guessing that you didn't make a clear point.

I think it was Boswell on why the Nats might reasonably pass on Fielder. Basic argument: LaRoche is OK if healthy; Morse is better at 1B than OF, and better than LaRoche. If LaRoche isn't tip-top, then Morse goes to 1B. If...someday...the team wants Zim off 3B then the only place would be 1B. Therefore, go with Morse for the next five years or more, and then Zimm. 1B is crowded.

Yep. I've been saying this for about a week now. I'm worn out. Prince needs to sign or not so I can go on with my life.

I'll reiterate: nothing is going to happen until January 18th, which is the last day the Rangers can sign Darvish.

I think my head will explode if we have to wait another two weeks.

What was April, May, June, and July?

If the August/September (2 months) average was 33,839, and the season average for 2005 was 33,728, then a pretty good estimate of the average for the first 4 months of April through July would be about 33,673.

At least with Crow, Strasburg, Harper, and Darvish we had a definitive end date and time...Fielder could theoretically remain unsigned until March.

I hope Emelian Pugachev (the only Cossack I know) burns your village.

I'm from Boston, so considering we're the #1 seed, yeah, I pay attention to football lol.

Obviously the poster doesn't listen to sports radio in this town.

If they sign Prince, they need to continue with the other necessary spending to make it worthwhile.

I tend to agree with Zuckerman here, in that if they sign Fielder,  it will crowd out other necessary spending down the road.  Not that it has to, but it will.

I think Chief and I have had conversations about this before, but if that's the case what do you see as a best case scenario given that the two main prospects were the result of 100+ loss seasons?

I understand the other two arguments but the Zimmerman to 3b argument is just silly to me.

Most people think Zimmerman should play 3rd.  Where would you have him if not there?

It was an error in my post. I meant 1b.
