Eh I actually like the OF. Lots of OBP.

Its not the worst thing to not get a CF right now. Twins are asking way too much. Even if he plays as well as his previous best season, he's not worth a young, very good closer, and our future GG second baseman/number 2 hitter. They want a middle infielder they can have Antoneli.

Still Bourn can be had for prospects. We don't have to dismantle the bullpen to do it.

Whiff meaning get nothing done? I think we had a decent day, and I think odds are something gets done for a CF. Do we have anyone else that absolutely needs to get moved (like Marquis)?

I very badly need to see Laynce Nix traded.

Curiously again, if the Twins have such avarice for a major league reliever, who are they looking at, if not Storen or Clippard.  I posited this question a week or so ago.  What other comparable reliever are they looking at, who doesn't wear a Washington Nationals uniform?  Has anyone heard of any other?

My point, if they're willing to accept "something else" from some other team, why not something else from us?  Their singular focus on one of these two, if that's the case, is enough to give me pause.

Nationals have three ways to go in their search for CF: Span, Bourn or Upton. And right now, most likely avenue is Span. #trades

I think it's a safe bet that we'll have a new CF tomorrow.

Or, do it properly, and wait until the offseason where these three would still be available.

I also don't see any players capable of leading off either.

Buck up little camper. Your buddy Bixler is back.

Id rather sign Crisp in the off season for 2 years than to trade Storen for Span.

Crisp can be insurance in case Lombardozzi isn't raedy to lead off. He can hold the position until Harper/Hood/Rendon/Goodwin are ready to crack into the bigs. If Lombo leads off, it gives us a lot more flexibility in the OF. If Hood does continue to emerge and be that 20/20 guy he has the potential to be, then him in LF, Harper in CF, and Werth in RF long term looks pretty nice.

If this were edited to say Storen, Lombo & Shark, I'd agree.  I have no problem with Storen and Shark, but Lombo in addition to those two is just a bridge too far.  If that's what it takes to get Span, look at Bourne or Upton instead.

Another curiosity of mine, do they all (Twins, Astros and Rays) want Clippard and/or Storen?  That would also give me pause, that three, not one, not two but three teams are focused on just two players of the hundred or so players in the organization.

It might be a good idea to hang on to them.

i cant imagine the Astros want anything to do with Storen or Clippard. Melancon is a solid youngster, and if we're moving a closer because it has little value, the worse team in the league isn't going to trade their best remaining player for one.

The Rangers are too. They're not exclusively looking at our relievers but relievers in general

I think it's probabl because a good reliever can put a team over the top. The Nats are on the bottom of the poop lagoon.

10:47pm: The Nationals are more likely to go after Span than Michael Bourn or B.J. Upton at this point, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney (on Twitter). Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports hears that the sides are in a "staredown" (Twitter link). The Twins want the Nationals to include Storen in their offer.

Are the Twins talking to any other team about Span?

Does anybody else think the Twins might be trying to get back at us for the Capps-Ramos trade???

yes I do. I seriously can't believe that we can't get Bourn for less than what the Twins want Span for.

By making an even worse trade this year? Get over your love for Storen and realize every major news outlet is calling the Twins fools for even considering this trade. The only people thay dont see it apparently reside on this board.

Yea I saw tonights game and I almost screamed when I saw his name. Hopefully he does better but I would've rather seen Antonelli or Marrero.

Name two of those major news outlets.

And I hope the Twins finally come to this "realization" and trade Span to some other team where they can get real value.  I'm sure there are at least half a dozen teams out there trying to get a player currently on the DL because of a brain injury.

Edit - The "name two" is only half smart-assed because I am curious to see how many of them mention the word "concussion" and how many of them detail other teams interested in Span and what they think the Twins should get for him on those teams.

...Nevermind.  Since I do have internet access, I binged "Span twins trade" to see if any team other than the Nationals would come up.

Well, the Yankees were mentioned earlier today as a possible trade partner but it was speculated that they would try to flip Span for Clippard.  So that one doesn't count.

Another mentioned the Braves but said the Twins wanted "major league relievers" and the Braves had none to trade.  Well not their best ones as they'd rather keep Kimbrel and Venters for themselves.

And that was it.  Other than that, it was a stream of Nationals mentions.

Re: concussion - Most of the blogs/articles/columns didn't mention the word "concussion" but of the ones that did, I discovered that he has missed TWO MONTHS with this concussion!  TWO MONTHS!!!  Also, a few days ago, he had an unscheduled missed rehab start and there was speculation that he was having some concussion related problems.  I don't know what came of that but I thought I'd just put it out there.

There were a few blogs that discussed why the Twins should not trade Span.  They didn't mention concussion. They also didn't mention a team other than the Nationals but did mention the Twins getting hosed in the Capps-Ramos trade last year.  One also mentioned not wanting to trade Span for one reliever.  His solution?  Span for Clippard AND Storen!

That lineup would unleash the fury on people. Also realize that lineup at no point has two batters in order who bat from the same side.

Sure it does:  Werth & Ramos

Which trade? Storen straight up for Span or what the Twins are supposedly asking for in Lombo, Storen, and Bernadina.

I wouldn't trade Lombo, he needs to play second base for us.

Also, I had a dream that we traded Espinosa. I was heated.

Agreed. Unless there is another prospect of note (or two) coming back, I'd pass. If someone like Kyle Gibson or Aaron Hicks is included, I'd reconsider
