Pence is making 7 million this year and that number is only going to grow in the upcoming seasons. He doesn't fit our budget.
Is this post a joke?  Check out Jayson Werth's contract some time.

Yeah, the more I think about this, I just can't believe that there wasn't a better offer from any team for Hunter Pence. Weird.
This.

Admittedly, the Phillies gave up two Top 50 propsects (#41 and #43).

But the  Giants gave up Zack Wheeler (#35) for two months of Beltran. Surely the Astros could have gotten more for Pence?

As for our budget. He is now, but in about three years, this payroll could easily be close to 100 million, if not over. A lot of our current roster is due arbitration in the next couple years.

We paid our RF 126 million. Is it going to grow that big? No, I thought so.

:lmao: Pay attention! They had well over 20 million dollars come off the books with Dunn's and Guzman's contracts (among others) expiring. All they did was reallocate those dollars to seem as if they were expanding payroll. Payroll went up 2 million from last season and they're currently trying to dump a couple of million owed to Marquis.

Whats so funny?

Tyler Clippard -2012
Mike MOrse - 2012
Jordan Zimmermann - 2012
John Lannan - 2012
Wilson Ramos - 2013
Ian Desmond - 2013
Ryan Zimmerman - Free agent in 2014

On top of that Strasburg and Harper will be needing new deals in the next couple years.

Zim alone is 25 million

Morse is more likely to be traded than Clippard. We have first base prospects.

And what are you considering "a few" I'm thinking average of around five million. So not counting Ryan, thats a 20 million dollar increase.

I kind of doubt Ryan really getting to free agency. At the very least, they'll trade him in 2013 season (my mistake before, Ryan is a free agent in 2014)

if we trade Morse for prospects I'll lose my freaking mind

look at all the teams around the league that trade their proven vets for prospects.. they just happen to be the same teams selling EVERY trade deadline.

Desmond isn't getting $5m unless Boss Lorderbobble is the GM.  Lannan isn't get that either unless PANatsFan is really Mark Lerner.  Zimmermann, Ramos, and Morse could see a decent raise (~3m each), Clippard is getting traded and Zimmerman is probably not going to stay.

We're going to be 16th in attendance next year so I'm not really sure where almost $40m in budget is going to come from...

You do understand how arbitration works, right? Its based on how the player does in comparison to others at his position

Morse is hitting with the best first basemen in the NL. Zimmermann was one of the top 10 pitchers in baseball up until the past two starts.

Both will get way more than 3 million. Morse is already making a million and Adam Laroch is getting 7.

Yes and LaRoche will be gone unless we, foolishly, extend him.  So, LaRoche, Marquis, and Pudge all gone in 2-3 years is over $20m off the books.

Oh okay. Thought Marquis was making 2 million.

But we have to sign other players ...

Point is, if this team wants to keep its core its going to cost 20-50 million  more in the next three years.

3. Zimmerman
4. Nix
5. Morse
6. Espinosa
7. Werth
8. Ramos

Omg yezzir.  Unleash the fury.

Replace Nix with Bryce Harper next year or the year after.

Is this post a joke?  Check out Jayson Werth's contract some time.

It only filled the money that was left over from Dunn and Guzman being gone.

The payroll did not rise, at all.

True, but I'm not so sure Philly will be able to keep this up like New York and Boston. The rich and poor are alot closer in the National League East.

Atlanta might = Tampa (development strategy, not budget) in which case we'll have to become the Red Sox.

Now that Philly has no prospects left, I really really hope that the aging thing will hit them hard in a couple years, but it is certainly possible that Amaro just keeps trading for and signing everybody he needs and they are the NL Yankees.
