No, he didn't. That was Baseball America's take on the trade.

Yeah, it didn't seem to be SF's writing style. SF doesn't write in paragraphs that long, and he doesn't put stats in parenthesis. Also, "the questions" part isn't his style either.

He does write some really good posts from time to time with great analysis though.  I don't know sheet about the minors so I lean on guys like you and Sportsnyan to school me.

Yeah I actually think that the Astros "won" that deal. They got two top 50 prospects for Pence, who while I love him, is pretty overrated. He's good, but he's never gonna be a star.

i agree.  It was weird reading all the posts saying Wade was acting like the Phillies' Asst. GM, when I thought he got a pretty good haul for Pence.

Hearing that the Twins want Roger Bernadina along with a reliever in any deal that sends Span to the Nats.
Bernadina + Coffey for Span, get it done.

Robbing?  Ill admit the Astros didn't get as much as they could,  but they got two Top 50 prospects and a possible number 4 starter.

Komaysu sounds like a leadoff hitter to me :)

Again, they got Single A player for a still young, already established, very good major league player.  Assuming the Single A player doesn't flame out in the next two or three years, before they even have a chance to make it to the majors, what about next year for the Astros and the year after?  They do have to play games in 2012 and 2013 too.  I assume they'll be trying to sell tickets and merchandise those years too?  What are the fans paying for, the off chances that they'll see these players in 2014...but keep buying stuff now!

Look, if I'm the Nationals and the Astros want Single A player(s) for Bourn, I give them the Hagerstown roster and say take your pick(s)!  Numbers in Single A, for me, are background noise.  Remember Colton Willems.  He was good in Single A.

We did hose the Twins for Capps. Can we hose them twice?

Probably.  They're playing to keep selling out their new stadium.

With the question marks in the rotation, this year, (Strasburg, Zimnn, Wang, Milone and Peacock) would it be wise to keep Marquis until the waiver wire deadline and do a deal then?  If Wang gets reinjured, Stras is not ready, JZimnn is shutdown, Milone and Peacock are not 'rushed', then we are very thin at SP.

Thin for this season only.  If someone offers you a decent prospect(s) for Marquis make the deal.  I don't see a reason to worry about where the Nats finish this season(now 7 games under .500) and the starting positions can be filled by the gaggle of hodge-podgers (Stammen, Maya, Martin, Martis, etc) in AAA and AA.

If the Twins were smart they would wait until Coffey gets released

No but I'd sign off on Bernadina + Clippard.

Tweets from earlier suggested that the Twins want Bernadina + Storen and the Nationals are trying to convince them to take Clippard instead.

The Astros got a lot for Pence. Those guys are the 2 top Astros prospects instantly. If we traded the same package it would be Peacock and Norris, plus filler.

The same package as the Phillies? Our two guys you mention are in AAA and AA (although struggling), while the Phillies' prospects are still in A. Shoot, Peacock is almost ready.

My whole issue with that trade is that they traded Pence and didn't get anyone close to MLB level. Don't a lot of good A prospects flame out?

I think Norris/Peacock would have been a much better deal for the Astros. I wonder if Rizzo would have done that one. Doubt it.

LOL, all I do is re-post BA and a couple other sites and wait for Brian to post ;) Some of the other guys on here know a ton about the minor league system -- it's a huge reason why I come to this site so often.

I would not want to do that if I were the Nats. We have Werth, we don't need him.

Put one of them in LF. We haven't solved LF yet unless you're assuming we move Morse back there next year.

Anyway, we need pitching more, I suppose.

Beaufort von Frankenstein may have blown a call on Marquis. Kilgore clarifies: "No lineup card yet for the Nats. Marquis in the clubhouse."

In the clubhouse, but that doesn't mean he's not traded - right?
