And we've blown up how skewed the stats are against relievers, so I don't buy anything they have to say.

Wow.  Rangers with Uehara and Bell.  What happened to Neftali Feliz?

I love Drew Storen too but Feliz was a young super closer as recently as last year.

No we haven't. Some people think they're wrong because any reliever can be Mariano Rivera, others because they can't believe Storen is #57 in WAR.

He doesn't have to be Mariano to be kept.

And there simply is no logic to justify Storen being called #57. So that crap is utter garbage and totally meaningless.

Just like you'll defend your boy Keith Law to the death

Are you freaking crazy. I don't give a crap about Law.  :lmao:  I watch baseball. I don't pay much attention to what jokers write. What they write is insignificant.

Oh, and btw, the Pads got two excellent prospects for a middle relievver.

So all this talk about relief and closers not being that valuable is a crock.

Span wouldn't fetch Erlin and Wieland on his own. But a reliever did.

holy crap. there's a reason he's 57th - his K rate is ~league average.

You LOVE defending them when they talk crap about the Nats.  And when they praise the team, you laugh at everyone if they commend it.

Please, Law fulfills your hard-on for negativity.

Feliz is still very good.

But Feliz to the rotation has always been in the discussion. So by adding more bullpen arms, it doesn't hinder them going forward. It could just make the transition of him to the rotation an easier decision.

But for this year, that bullpen is disgusting.

LMAO - so because he doesnt strike out a K per inning, he's the 57th best reliever in baseball?

Give me a break.

Absolute garbage. That's all it is.

Do you honestly believe Storen is the 57th best reliever in baseball?

Ok strawman, they are valuable TO CONTENDERS.

Ok strawman, they are valuable TO CONTENDERS.

And the goal is to contend next season. Not necessarily for a championship, but for the playoffs. When you have a 23 year old at the back end of your pen, you don't trade him away.

You know what screams contention? Trading away half your team every year. 2012 is always a year away to the Nats.

No we haven't. Some people think they're wrong because any reliever can be Mariano Rivera, others because they can't believe Storen is #57 in WAR.
I don't particularly like WAR for relievers when comparing relievers to other positions, but internally among relievers WAR is basically FIP and appearance / IP.  From what I understand of SIERA, that is probably a better measure than FIP for relievers because it gives more emphasis on how strikeouts improve the odds of getting out of an inning clean. Of course, that does not help Drew.  I think what the WAR stat shows is that Drew is not in the elite of relievers so far this year, if you define the elite as the top 10% of relievers performance this year.  He good to very good, probably closer to to 20 - 25 % than top 10%.

The Feliz record this year is yet another example of how fickle relief projections can be.  I don't think anyone figured he'd have as bad a year as he has.

WTF are you talking about? I don't read what people write about the Nats. Again, let me be clear, I don't read what people write about the Nats. What they write has no impact on what actually happens on the field. I watch the games with my own two eyes and form my own opinions. I make fun of idiots who rip writers because what they write doesn't align with what they want to believe and also when they go out of their way to praise said writers because it fortifies their agenda.

There was a time when someone pretending to be Law (I actually thought it was Law himself) came on here to defend him/his position and I was the one who ripped into him the most. I don't give a crap about those clowns.

And it's fine if you want to believe that I have a "hard-on for negativity". The reality is that this team has given us nothing but negative results. By this time I expect it and they never disappoint in that arena.

Also, if you can point out a post where I actually defended a writer when he/she talked crap about the Nats (aside from defending their right to have an opinion) I welcome it. You confuse laughing at idiots who hate writers for having an opinion with defending them. But you being confused is not surprising.
