They'll be bidding- they went from verge of insolvency to new ownership and now the have a deal that is supposedly one of the richest in baseball

buster olney says he thinks the reds would listen to offers for joey votto.

that would be sick if we could scoop him, but there's no chance in hell it would happen.

Boston's losing and the Texas TV contract shouldn't force us into giving that much money to a second-tier starter. Cliff Lee had the Yankees and some other big market teams coming after him and even he didn't get that much.

Honestly, I wouldn't even give him half the money you suggested he'd command. I'd rather sign Buerhle or Jackson for $30 mil than Wilson for $80 mil. Then go after a front line gut like Greinke the following year. If we give Wilson $100 mil+ this offseason, there is no way we're in the market for other, likely better, possibly much better pitchers down the road.

The problem the Cubs and Mets have is that they gave out gigantic contracts to too many second or third tier players. Unless we can spend like the Red Sox or Yankees, we need to avoid that - it's pretty much a death sentence to any team that can't spend like that.

They might, that guy Ryan Howard has an achilles problem. He was slow when he was healthy, I cannot imagine that moose coming back as good as before.

I wouldn't say that the Phillies have made mistakes as much as they've made gambles. They've bet everything on these few years in which their core players are still in their prime, sacrificing their future to do so. It's a massive risk designed solely to win World Series, and because of that, it can be considered a failure because they haven't won a Series since acquiring Halladay and company.

I don't want to be a team that's constantly overpaying for high priced vets, getting stuck with huge contracts, and failing to win the WS. I want to see a team that builds up players from within and augments the core with a few free agents as needed.

For all the Yankees have spent over the last 10 years, they've won just one WS in that time.
